Description I shot this at a Panera down in the Plaza.

I was waiting for my food when I noticed a couple sitting at

a table together. Both were heavily involved in their laptops

until the woman got frustrated and started going through

the papers she had. All the while the guy was sitting there

completely invloved with the music (I assume) he was

listening too.

I see things like this frequently. This disconnect between

people, often by technology.

Anyway give me your thoughts.

Prints available upon request.

This often happens at Panera here as well. I like to watch the people; the booths are lined up in a neat row against the wall and creates a "fish bowl" for every patron.

To true, many people now believe they can get a meaningful relationship from their computers. Not true. You took this picture at just the right moment.

Now what would be really sad is if the guy was messaging her on his comp.

Wow. That's the best, when you witness something involving total strangers but it means so much. I love this. I love the story.

Nice shot.

It's incredibly sad to think about how often this sort of thing happens. Technology is beautiful, but only if used in moderation, otherwise it becomes an ugly thing that tears us all apart.

This very much deserves the DD it recieved, you could go in my dining room and see this very thing. Your one of the first, if not THE first to post something like this, grat's to you for bringing the subject to a head.

I'm glad someone else has noticed scenery like this. A few months ago my husband and I were in a restaurant and a young-ish couple came in. With the exception of telling the waitress what they wanted, they didn't exchange a single word to each other until they agreed it was time to go. Now, both being techno-freaks, even my husband and I were taken aback. We decided, how sad. How very very sad.

Thank you. The technological disconnect is one of the dominant themes in a book I'm working on. We live in a master/slave relation to our technology, depending on it for our very existence, yet dying to escape as it threatens to morph us more like itself everyday, with everu click: hollow vacant, electronic entities with no language but binary code and no functions but algorithmic commands.

it looks like a snapshot from a movie...
the type of movie in which the facts of life are laid out so openly and in a poetic way in the end everything looks surreal.
or maybe not...
I certainly love it.

good title for it.

she might be too tied up in work...notice her tension.

he is "disconnected" with her because he's too busy chatting and listening to music. makes ya wonder how they even met with all that ignoring each other going on.

put work away, turn off the chatbox.....eat and talk.

All these advancements in technology, but are we really any smarter? Does it make us any happier?
Hmm...

Thought #2, I work at a resteraunt and see situations like this a lot. It makes me think to this one time, though, when there was an elderly couple sitting at a booth. No laptops, no books, just enjoying each other's company and sharing a sunday. Wish I could have taken a moment to get a picture of that scene. <3

And lastly, the given location of your photo reminds me that I haven't been to the plaza in quite a while.. Heh.

the guy is maybe chatting with a person on the different side of the world, but he is disconnected from his immediate society.

Excellent capture of a moment we all see...all hate...and all want to believe isn't true. But it's in our faces every day and you did a great job capturing it.
I am often puzzled why certain shots get a DD...but this one is no puzzle at all. It's a snapshot of life today. Nicely done and a well deserved DD!
