I suppose the scars demanded the clay be baked on, but I suppose for bigger pieces you can bake the clay separately and just glue it on later?

OH yeah, I suppose you could if the pieces didn't need to adhere to the form of the base piece, the Sculpey tends to bond rather well with the Vinyl of the Munny due to the Sculpey agent melting it.

That's cool then. Whatever works right? I think you answered a similar question, but what temp did you end up baking at?

About 225 for 20 or so minutes, let it cool and then repeated. The Munny came close to melting a couple of times so I kept checking him.

Thanks, I actually baked the Sculpey onto the Munny and it seemed to bond just fine.

Thanks a ton, yeah I had like three days with the Munny before the show so I just did a test with one of his accessories and it worked. You do have to watch the heat as you can melt the Munny.

He is a cutie! I'm still too scared to put anything extra on mine because I fear the munnys melting.

This little guy rocks, I must say.
I never would have guessed you to be a sculptor. Never. But you are damn good! You're the cowboy that creates chaos!

Thanks Jessi, I never would have guessed I was a sculptor either.

question: how do i protect the paint on my munny? is there a spray or paint I can use? I used semi-gloss varnish, but its sticky. also, the paint comes off of at the neck.

I use an Acrylic sealant, but it can still be somewhat tacky. I've yet to find one that isn't.

How do you bake the Sculpey without damaging the vinyl?

AliasGhost In reply to J-Blacksoot [2007-04-17 18:46:54 +0000 UTC]
Yeah that was an experiment in fear, I tested this on one of the accessories before I put the whole thing in. If you bake it at the suggested temp the vinyl gets super soft but thatβs about it, if there was more sculpey on it the weight would have collapsed it. You could probably bake at a lower temp like 200 for a longer period of time though.

I love this little guy. Did baking the sculpey adhere it to the surface of the vinyl?

AliasGhost In reply to Cacodaemonia [2008-11-04 05:18:41 +0000 UTC]
Yes, it bonded pretty well with the baking, I suppose if you bent it, it would break off though. And thanks.

I recently finished a Munny with Super Sculpey additions to it. Worked wonderfully! Thanks.

Ha ha ha! An experiment in fear. How many artists have had those internal conflicts?
There are no "undo" buttons in sculpting.

True that, especially at the baking stage.

Would using a blowdryer be effective for drying the clay?
π: 0 β©: 1
AliasGhost In reply to arsenalgearxx [2008-06-04 00:25:18 +0000 UTC]
It could possibly cure the outer layer, but the inner layer would remain un-cured. A heat gun would be a better alternative.
