Wonderful and very imaginative use of the Challenge stock selection! My sister had a rat of this colour; mine was albino. They make great pets and are very smart, so I'm not surprised to see one learning the alphabet

Thanks so much! My sister and brother both had a rat when we were kids. I think they died of old age eventually

Sadly, the average life expectancy of a rat is only 2 to 3.5 years. But they are so much fun during that time that I highly recommend them as pets.
Mine stayed in his cage while I was working but dove into his wheel and ran round and round as soon as I came home, stopping periodically to see if I was coming his way to let him out. He shared the food bowl with our toy poodle, and hid lots of those coin-wrapped chocolates behind the bookcase 
Yep, a very inexpensive pet that brings you much joy
