wow, she has big eyes...I like the lighting in this photo, it's really soft my b&w photos always look flat, this definately doesn't. As many thumbs as possible up!

Aight. I like the composition. The idea. all superb. But.. the contrast isn't working for me. I'd think either go *normally* i.e. quite a bit more contrast without blowoing out the highlights, or go to the other extreme i.e *much* more of a high key effect (to get rid of those grey blobs at the top). I'm good with the grain as an effect.. I don't think that necessarily detracts from anything.

Fantastic portrait ! The angle is great, I love her expression ! The slight overexposure adds a lot to the image, in my opinion. Great job.

haha thanks. the shot is actually exposed correctly, it was the lighting that gave it the slightly overexposed feeling. but it really puts the focal point on the eyes!

Yes, it does. Overexposure doesn't necessarily mean your light meter was off, or you exposed for longer, it can mean "brighter than usual", if you get my meaning

haha yah true true. haha yet i'll be stubborn and fight my point! the actual part of concentration are the eyes and that itself along with the rest of the picture is exposed correctly. despite the lightening of the image due to the lighting.

Stubborn ain't i!

I'm only arguing over the definition, but as I said above, I don't think this photo could have been better exposed, the fact that it's "lighter than usual" ( I didn't say overexposed ) adds a lot to it, and I like it.
You might want to try a similar photo using highkey lighting techniques...

haha yahhhh i feel its best the way it is. and yah maybe if a shot comes by my way which i like and can compose to my liking which is also highkey then i'll shoot it and post it! haha it was a good conversation!

haha yah the grains okay. the film scanner completly destroyed it though. it was wayyyy sharper and less grainy with my prints. seeeee damn computers! haha. i just fell in love with the eyes and this shot pretty much can sum up my lil sister.

I agree, nice angle, but what camera do you use? It seems a bit out of focus...

alternativemethod In reply to praetoritevong [2006-04-07 06:50:31 +0000 UTC]

i used my 35mm for this shot. Nikon f3hp. its not blurry rather the grain is quite big due to 400 iso film, the lighting, and the stupid film scanner. LOOKS SOOOO MUCH BETTER IN PRINT. as with all the other black and whites. Computers can never reproduce what silver and light can!
