Description Hokay, so I've been reading this crazy manga entitled Toriko. Think Fist of the North Stat meets One Piece meets super luxurious food. A manga about Toriko the Bishokuya (Luxurious Food Provider) and Komatsu the Chef (he is on his way to becoming one of the most epic chefs in the world, which in a world centred around food is a Big Thing)
The manga is full of crazy awesome adventures (like travelling into the insides of humongous super Mamoth or a Garden among clouds on the boarder of atmosphere or an Ice Hell which makes Antarctica look like a Summer Resort in Caribeans, and everywhere our heroes must face powerful monsters, it's a Eat or be Eaten kind of world. Damn even the kitchenware is Badass here, a knife made by the Master Sharpener Melk the Second could cut a Mountain in Half.
Oh and did I mention that the author is friends with Eiichiro Oda ??

Takamura Mamoru (Hajime no Ippo) beat up a bear? Toriko killed and ate a monstrous panda and it wasn't even that big a deal. Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate (One Piece) can create earthquakes? Toriko can cut a crevice in the earth by accident. Guts severed his arm and replced it with a cannon? Toriko had his arm chewed off (blasted off in the anime) and threw a punch with his still bleeding stump!

And Jack Rakan lost all his limbs but slapped on replacements, burst out of another dimension by being awesome, blew up a mountain by turning his body into a laser and later dodged Reality Warping Powers with disco moves.
It's hard to compare badasses outside their respective series XD

Don't forget Asura from Asura's Wrath destroying gods the size of planets, cathing a blade that can pierce the planet, fight the planets will itself, and then become bigger then everythign else besides the final bad guy and punch through said badguy's forehead, with said bad guy being biiger then galaxies.

I really like Toriko... It's a really interesting manga! I'm waiting for more chapters~

Personally, I don't particularly like the artwork (too dragonball Z-ish) But I still fangirl Sani/Sunny.

It proves that the story has such really developed characters that I can move past the artwork (In which, seriously, there are too many muscles *sweatdrops*)

So YAY TORIKO~!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Andarion In reply to rubynymphe [2011-12-19 20:11:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the muscles may be too much, especially when Toriko loads one of his super attacks.
Art aside Toriko has a really fun setting, I mean not every day you get an epic story about hunting and cooking food XD

Yay Indeed.

I totally love this manga and after reading a couple of days untill the part we are now (Back at the restaurant after "capturing" the Mellow Cola) I must say that each story arc is more epic than the last one.

I never saw Fist of the North Star so when I tried to compare Toriko with other series or movie I'd say:

Dragonball Z meets Iron Chef meets Jurassic Park

Just when I thought that Toriko himself was a total badass I was completely overwhelmed by Zebra. If Toriko is like Goku, then Zebra would be like Broly

I hope Toriko will put the Mellow Cola in his main course as a drink.

Andarion In reply to SSJGarfield [2011-06-08 16:03:33 +0000 UTC]

Couldn't agree more, the craziness and improbability of each arc gets kicked up to eleven. It seriously reminds me of Straw Hat Pirates and their crazy adventures

Not quite there yet (DBZ) the power levels aren't right but yeah there are similarities.

Yeah Zebra is a real monster considering what he is capable off, and for all his jerkass character he does have a small heart of gold.

We'll see though considering that Zebra put it in his I doubt it. Let's wait and see.

ryuan [2011-05-22 14:02:45 +0000 UTC]

It's interesting because in a sense Komatsu can 'take down' ingredients of high capture level due to the 'difficulty of cooking' clause.

Since acquiring the ingredient in this case is only half the battle and the other half is to make it edible, you can say Komatsu is on the level of Toriko already.

Not only that but he managed to reproduce with modern day (+ endangered) ingredients relatively easy to acquire (for a 'mere' five star restaurant) the same taste of a legendary soup after tasting it once.

The only thing he lacks is some minor survival capability in order to enter some harsher environment, but for a normal guy he sure as hell can survive the craziest things.

Maybe he is already above average but didn't realized it yet due to which who he is always hanging around?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Andarion In reply to ryuan [2011-05-23 14:55:33 +0000 UTC]

Well that's the whole point of cooperation between Chefs and Bishokuya, ones have the powers and abilities to take down various monsters while the others the knowledge and skills to properly cook them ^^ Using RPG terms, they are on the same level just in different Classes

Yeah that's what troubles me. Komatsu just doesn't have the physical power to withstand stuff like High Gravity or other "Everything is trying to kill you" environments.

Overshadowed by Awesome aka Toriko and his "brothers" ?? Yeah it may be true.

Even his clothes are similar (sans armour and cape of course), but mainly it's because he's on the same level, if not more, than Toriko (kenshiro of the series) and is generally more feared/worshipped depending on the situation.

Seriously, the guy can kill you by whispering in your ear, how scary is that?

It’s an oni! Quick! Throw beans at it! *Camie style face fail.* WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU EATING THEM!?

I need to thank you for my bottom of my heart for this awesome manga! 2-3 days reading (and some food less) and I feel awesome! To see such hardcore martial arts manga type character like Toriko in a series to depicts people eating (AND IT LOOKS AWESOME!), gives serious laughter, brings out tears (Penguins parents...) has such a good drawing style, explanations that actually make sense (all those things about cells and shivering) and crazy techniques (I have wished so long to see hand-leg knife, plus being used as air pressure) and after 128 chapters it continues to keep me at the edge of my seat and seems to be just keeping its pace. God damn it, ZEBRA!

This is some huge rice ball. XD
[link]
And 15 kg shit? Respect, man!

His dream of completing his menu is so hotblooded shounen hero like and yet so different from anything I have seen. Gives Big Eater trope a completely new definition. Not to mention his house that completely overshadows all those witch houses.

Special notice to this awesome creature!
[link]

[link]
One more thing awesome here are the hybrids. I have a thing for funky creatures and even bursted out laughing during one of Berserk’s dark moments at one especially weird monster. Luckily I can now enjoy all sorts of freaks without the bad feeling Berserk’s evil that associated with them gave me.

Drunkard Melon? Hoo boy...

Strange how lot of physical violence does not disturb me. Wounds, blood gushing. But this creeped me out. Maybe it is some primal fear in front of a species that is so different from creatures of flesh. Weak and yet so powerful. Invading human body, spreading. Animal’s fangs can be pulled out the moment the animal is killed, but those deep roots can spread deep into human body and completely take it over.

Sauron created Ring with volcano. Toriko makes popcorn with volcano.

Coco reminded me a bit of Piccolo. Must have been his turban. It is rare to see a good character to use poison. Magellan wasn’t bad, but he was Luffy’s enemy. But having a bit melancholical Coco to be poison god is just plain brilliant.

Melk II gave me Lan Fan vibes. And I adore Lan Fan.

I was thinking for quite some time of who does Komatsu remind me. Then it came. Sasuke! You know, that Sasuke, who worked as ninja? For Kuno. No, not that laser eye duck head dude.

Cause they are delicious [purrs the Oni with delight as he chows down the beans] Mind passing me the garlic ??
[Andarion nods seriously] You Don't use food against the Gourmet Oni XD

To be honest I must apologize T_T I read this manga back when it started to be published but forgot about it after first 2-3 chapters, if I didn't I could show it to you earlier. But yeah the manga is awesome and now they are making an anime XD Zebra is a crazy awesome up to eleven and now it turns out he has a sonar/radar XD

Toriko lives by the creed β€žLive Big, Eat Big, Shit Big and Kick Big ASS” XD

Haha yeah I love this putting shonen tropes into a manga about eating XD As I said once, Japanese people can even make, making bread look epic XD

[scratches his chin] I saw something like this before... but I just can't remember where [murmurs with irritation]
Yeah there are SO many weird creatures here and we haven't even seen the Gourmet World, your love for weird animals will be fullfiled Xd Still... yeah, the creatures here just wants to eat you, not rape you, devour your soul and turn you into a zombie or something...

So... is it a melon that buys vodka all the time ??

Big eater, Fast Eater AND WHERE THEY HELL DOES HE STUFF ALL THAT FOOD ?? Is his stomach a friggin black hole or something XD ??

It's a love distilled from the hearts of manly courageous men !![screams Kamina-style] You better remember it!!

Siblings – people who share genetical similarity and wage wars among themselves all the time, Do Not Approach, capable of instantaneous allying themselves and kicking your ass

There is no limit to Badass Levels, Split the Heavens and level up Beyond the Impossible XD
Heh it cracks me up how this Silverback tries to haul ass XD
[link]

… Same here, weird creatures fill this world I'm telling ya

Good thing he inherited the Badass levels from Garp rather than Duval XD

Evil maybe he is (though he seems to fall into Relatively Noble Demon) but badass he is so very much

Haha how fun, author re-used the design, how do you think do those Pseudo thingies use their similarity to that Real Badass Bird as survival mechanism like β€œHey look I look just like that bird that can rip your ass off so stay clear from me”

Haha the thing looks seriously adorable XD In a Ugly Cute way

Truth indeed, it's a shame that he doesn't practice what he preaches XD Well with a Master whose creed is β€œBreak any rule into unrecognizable pieces” it's only natural I guess

Haha when I saw this scene first I KNEW you'll love this manga XD

Food Chain in this world is messed up beyond belief XD

Thought the exactly same thing XD Japanese sure love to make fun of him don't they ??

Naaah he just looks like him, if it was BA then Gourmet World would have been conquered long ago XD

A total Badass Grandpa with Badass Moustache XD What you'd expect from a World of Badass where even knives and plates are badass XD

Truly that's the King of Beasts for you,

Yeah I can understand that maybe it's a bit like when you are at the dentist and when you are in the chair you are at his/her mercy Personally I found that Bug-Dude Tommyrod to be Extremely disturbing, I'm not fond of bugs, in fact I hate them and he had all the horrible things the bugs are crammed into him and cranked up to eleven

Toriko – Where even making popcorn is a deed worth writing a Saga about it XD

Gods better be ready cause Toriko and other Gourmets are coming for them XD

Doesn't this Straw guy remind you of Tsukuyomi ??

The food that ends all wars, Truly epic and doesn't that bald old guy with a mustache and beard remind you of Kamesenin from Dragon Ball ??

People sure have strange interests... maybe he was gay ?? Two pleasures in one time period ^^

Even tvtropes warns that you should read it with a snack handy XD

It's a shame that Real Mafia and Yakuza aren't that good-natured and epic

[nods] Bad Powers Good People indeed, Coco is one of the nicest people in this manga. I wonder when we'll see Magellan again

Not just you, she is so adorable ^^ Hehe now we have love interests for both Toriko and Komatsu

Ah yeah I remember, he looked kinda rat-faced didn't he ?? And was abused by the Kuno siblings... what a bunch of jerks. Btw. Doesn't Komatsu means something along β€œproblematic” or β€œtroublesome” ?? [checks a dictionary]Hmm I guess not

No worries, just train with it and you'll take down dragons like they are nothing. There is this guy Head Waiter Alfaro who can cut powerful monsters to pieces with kitchen tables, or Komatsu's new kitchen knife which can slash mountains apart. There ARE no weak weapons in Toriko XD
