I've had similar arguments about why the creator's aim is important and that we should not call out a creator's main aim. I'm amazed to see a very well written article to end up having the same (or close) arguments as I do.. I knew I was on the right track when I argued that critique is about respecting the aim. After all, it's HELPING the creator after all right? This article will hopefully put those awful biased claims against art styles, creative concepts, and other intentions where they belong.

There is a common misconception that many people think that to give a critique is to be subjective. That there cannot be an objective way of reviewing.
Some people also think that being objective is about simply describing the work and/or people around it.
That's far from true. Being objective in a critique is to find the mistakes the creators made themselves.. and what counts as a mistake? It's a failed attempt: Something that made their aim look bad.

After all, we've seen many arguments on what's fair or not in an attempt to criticized a work. Lot's of the times I hear the words "intention" and I find that an important argument.

Example of what's fair or not:
Someone wanted to make a new movie about tigers. The creator also wanted to express his art style for the tigers to find new fans who may like them.

Unfair Reviewer: "The tigers are flaws because I don't like tigers. And the art style needs to change to a different style my friends like."
Fair Reviewer: "Half the movie, it's not about tigers which kinda defeats the movie title.. And there is a plot hole."

Sadly a lot of movie critics (for example) may not be able to separate emotion from fact and try bashing anything that's new and creative. Or bash any other thing that's part of the main aim. Just remember folks, personal preferences isn't the same as judgement.
Personal preferences is to KEPT OUT of a critique unless the creator's aim allows some personal feedback.
I also like video game reviewers in general more because I believe video game reviewers are a lot more respective toward many aims of a creator. A lot I like don't attack someone's talent, and dreams.

Don't like change? Too bad.
Don't like a creator's art vision and/or style? Too bad.
Don't like seeing creative ideas such as wolves meeting magical talking dancing flowers? Too bloody bad.
If you have a problem with people doing something unexpected and new then go back to your "boring" traditional limited media you like so much.
If you have a problem with people being inspired to make similar stuff, then go find something more new to you.

TL;DR

Objective critique is the best way to give a critique..
Objective critique is about finding the actual flaws (mistakes the creator made when achieving something).
Keep your personal preferences out of critique, unless it's allowed by the creator's aim, otherwise you're just terrible at giving the critique.
