I think this collection is very neat! I like how you arranged them by spectrum. This will come handy anytime I need to draw a precious stone somewhere, I'm sure!

Thank you ! I am glad that you like this!
And well, to arrange them by spectrum was a kind of natural for me, since I used to it in Photoshop, you know, the way you pick colours there .
Do you have favourite stones here?

You are very welcome!
I understand, hehe. I love all of the gemstones, since I love most shiny trinkets and baubles! But I would prefer some stones over the others... and that's because some of those have distinct meanings for me, for instance, my female protagonist Sapphira and her two best friends, Emeralda and Ruby have rather obvious ties to the precious stones. They each have a locket with a corresponding stone to their name. So the first picks would be sapphire, emerald and ruby. I think garnets are very beautiful, but I am mostly familiar with them through the video game Oblivion... the character I played would find garnets most often out of all the precious stones while adventuring, and they were also the cheapest when selling. But because my character found so many garnets all the time, he finally began putting them into display cases and shelves in his home. I like arranging objects in a home, even if it is just in a video game.
I think jasper is very beautiful for its red and white patterns. I like to think that Jasper would also be my cat's full name, but all of us shorten it into Jass anyway. I like hyacinth for the name and how radiant the gemstone's colour is. There's really something special about it. I like the yellow zircon for the same reason. Amber also has a special meaning for me, and I think we even discussed it some time ago. I have an amulet made of real amber and it was passed on from generation to generation... I also promised to show it to you, but it seems that one of us has misplaced it so I can't know where it is right now. I'm certain that it didn't leave the flat, however, so I'll probably muster some energy to find it at some point. Then I'll show the necklace to you for sure.
I like yellow topaz and light citrine a lot for their colours... I don't seem to have much of a meaning with them, however, I really just like them for their appearance. But I do like heliodor for the name... it's tied to the sun, since Helios is personification of the Sun in Greek. The stone does remind of the Sun a lot. Peridot and chrome diopside are only pretty in their appearance again, no special meaning to me. Jade has a meaning for me from even two video games... one had a protagonist called Jade who wore green clothing and green lipstick to stay true to the gemstone which she was named after... and in the other videogame, I remember how I made my character wade through the jungle just to mine iron veins just to get some jade. She's a jewelcrafter and a paladin.
I also like chrysoprase and amazonite for their translucent look. They appear so smooth! But again, no special meaning for me, I just like the appearance. As for turquoise, it's special for me because I have actually seen it in real life (besides amber). It's also really beautiful. Aquamarine gets a meaning from the same game where my character mined for jade. She also mined a lot for aquamarine, but from mithril veins (mithril is a fictional metal, said to be stronger than steel). Indicolite and blue topaz don't have a meaning for me, but I really like their mystical appearance and colour. Moonstone is very beautiful and its meaning lies for me in having seen them in real life as well... I once bought ten moonstone pearls and two tiger's eye pearls for a necklace from a jewellery store. Unfortunately, that jewellery store ran out of business quickly for some reason... and the necklace doesn't look very professional. I've ought to redo it if I look into jewellery tutorials to make a decent necklace that doesn't have the danger of falling apart quickly.
Lapis lazuli also gets its meaning from a video game... but it could only be mined for decorative purposes and pigments. One could make weapons and tools out of precious metals, but gemstones only served a decorative purpose, which makes sense... but precious metals were more essential for survival in that game. Precious stones could only be traded in for other things. Tanzanite doesn't have a special meaning, but I like the colour. Same goes for rhodonite... I just like the pink and black pattern. Rose quartz reminds me of salt candles. I should get myself a salt candle someday, just for fun. Morganite reminds me of the name "Morrigan"... it was the Celtic goddess of war. Pink certainly doesn't go well with war, however... amethyst gets its meaning from yet another video game, because it was a rather common stone found in the world. I like the colours of fluorite, but it also has a meaning from a video game... the world in there had large chunks of light blue fluorite lying around in one place. It was a beautiful sight, so I remember it well. And onyx has a meaning from the same video game where my character searched for jade and aquamarine... she also had a drake who she could ride. That drake had claws, teeth and spikes on the back made of purple onyx. Diamond is a gemstone I like for obvious reasons... for its prismatic traits! And of course, it's the most precious stone in most video games, haha. Opal is a less-known gemstone, but I absolutely love its variety in colours! And pearl is very well worth remembering for its origins - you can only get true pearls from a clam. Essentially, the inside of a clam's shell is made of pearly material. And when a speck of sand gets stuck in the clam, it forms a pearly sphere around it so that the clam's soft insides wouldn't get hurt. And coral... coral is a gemstone which really reminds me of coral reefs in the sea.
Sorry for the long letter, once again... but I really love so many gemstones and I can associate all sorts of meanings with them!

It is perfectly fine, I like long letters, especially from you !
As to me, I like the most of stones too. But like you, I like some of them more.
I have a soft spot for beryl family:
aquamarine - for its wonderful sea wave colours and obvious association with water,
green beryl - for its misty green colours, also it is the stone associated with magic and elves,
heliodor - for its warm satured colours and its name which means ''a gift of the sun''
morganite - for its soft colours,
emerald is for now my least favourite of them, but some shades are still very nice
Some of other stones are especially lovely too.
Chrysolite - because of its warm green colours with golden spark, like sun shining through forest foliage
Adularia also known as moonstone - for its beautiful colour, transparency and mysterious sheen
Opals - for their marvellous colourful sparks, at this picture there are my favourite variations
Pearl - for its natural origin and association with water, and of course for its nacre colours
Amber - for its warm colours, to me it is also associated with sun
Pink quartz - for its soft colours - I like warmer and lighter shades of pink, remind me of dawn
Tanzanite - for its beautiful play of colours, changing from blue to violet and purple
Yellow zircon and yellow topaz - again, for their warm goldy/sunny colours
Carnelian and sardonyx - for their warm colours of red-orange-yellow range
Chrysoprase - for its slightly transparent misty colours
Amazonite - for its calm colours and association with Ancient Egypt
Coral - for its natural origin and its warm colours
Rubies and red garnets such as pyrope and almandine can be nice sometimes too, but overall they are not among my favourites. Plus red colour may be really tiresome sometimes.
But again, it is always very special. Actually nearly every stone and mineral has nice shades and varieties.

It's very interesting to know what kind of stones you like, too! I'll try to remember the part about you liking the beryl family most. I can agree that red is psychologically the colour of danger and it forces you to stay alert with its brightness... but I really like red for its association with romance. And even though violet/dark purple and green are my most favourite colours, my second favourites would be metallic colours, red, black and white. My Mother also mentioned that I look best when wearing red... so I try to wear red on formal occasions, whenever possible! But that may also be because I don't have any convenient festive outfit that is in violet and green colours...
I agree about all sorts of gemstones and minerals having so many wonderful varieties, as well. Plus, they're all shiny! And neither of us can resist shiny things, haha!

So you look good in red too? It is interesting. Although not surprising, seeing that you have dark hair and eyes, saturated colours usually go well with appearance like this.
As to me, I think I look good in dark colours like black, dark red, dark blue and purple, and in light pastel colours of cold palette (white, light grey, pale blue, light pink, lilac, pale mint etc.). Probably it is because after spending a lot of time indoors my skin is quite pale, thus favouring rather muted shades, both light and dark.
As to the red colour itself, I do not dislike it, although I do not adore it either. Probably subconsciously red colour is associated with something bad for me - wrath, violence, blood and thus war and death. In my stories, red is often associated with evil forces/negative characters.
But as I like tosay, there is time and place for everything, and for red colour too. I like bright warm red in Eastern clothes, especially Indian. Red is amazing in flowers, fruits and berries, bird feathers, stones and nature in general. Warm red looks nicely with green in cosy Christmas patterns, and regal with white and gold in dresses and royal mantles... So there is a lot of places and shades of red which I like, after all .
But still it is not the colour I recall when I think of my favourite colours .

Yes, although my dresses have rather contrasted shades of red... but I suppose it's like you said - my dark hair and eyes fit well with red. And I believe you on what colours you might look good in! Pale skin does look good with muted or softer colours!
I keep wondering where is a decent dark red bullet... maroon isn't quite right and the only bullet that's labeled "dark red" is too shiny for me... I probably have to make this one myself, too... I understand your opinion on red, though. And it's quite alright, because we like to say, to each their own! I obviously have the opposite association with red... I have one storyline with a main male character who's, apparently, a womanizer. He and his best friend are known to be quite the romantics, so if I ever draw a comic with them, it will probably have a special colour scheme - black, shades of red, shades of grey, white +their eye colours that stand out from the rest of the colours. I'm really keen on the idea of having small comic stories with colour schemes. The three other storylines I one day want to draw have different colour schemes, corresponding to the main characters' personalities and the general atmosphere.
I do agree that each colour has their time and place! I like red in situations like you described as well, not to mention romantic atmospheres.

A golden rule - if you do not find the image you need, just draw it!
It is definitely nice when a picture has a certain colour palette, because the colours is at least a half of the general impression, they are very important for feeling of the atmosphere!
Although to me personally red is not associated with romance. In fact the scheme you described (black, shades of red, grey and white) reminds of vampires rather than romance .
Probably it is because I divide the notions "romance" and "passion". Shades of red are tied with passion to me. While ''romance'' is something more light and warm, like colours of the sunset or dawn for example. There is one exception though - red&white are tied with romance to me due to the nice TV advertisments of Raffaello confection.

Hahaha, true, that. I will certainly create a decent dark red bullet and a decent copper bullet... as soon as I have a few other projects out of the way, that is...
I still like to associate red with romance the most, for some reason. Maybe I base it off the meanings of differently coloured roses - whenever one would offer someone a red rose, it would signify their love towards another, most often the romantic type. Giving a pink rose means one is crushing on another - definitely the kind of rose to give when one is romantically interested in another. Giving a yellow rose means a person has a secret to tell another person, or one can also offer these roses to friends. A white rose signifies politeness, neutrality, youthfulness and innocence. There are many more interesting variations. Yellow roses with red tips mean that one is falling in love with another. Orange means desire, enthusiasm. Red and white together signify unity. Coral is for desire only. Lavender roses mean love at first sight. Blue roses, which aren't natural, signify impossibility for the very reason that they aren't found in the wild. Black roses signify death. Red and yellow roses together symbolise happiness and excitement.
For such associations, I tend to think of bright red as the colour of true love. Dark red, wine red or blood red goes towards passion for me. And the scheme I described... well, it might remind of a lot of dark themes, mainly because black, grey and red are present there... but I can assure you that there are certainly no vampires in his story, haha. I suppose it will become more apparent once I actually start drawing the comic... but his part of the story will come after the three other protagonists. The first protagonist, a young death goddess living a mortal life has all sorts of dark themes. Her story's colour scheme is mainly black & white, plus shades of grey, shades of blue, shades of dark green and pale lilac... with the eye colours of different characters standing out, of course. The second protagonist has a cyberpunk theme, for he is a young genius inventor and engineer. His story will probably be most difficult to picture because of the accurate geometric details... which I'm not very good at yet, but his story will be great practice. His story's colour scheme is shades of grey, orange, light green, light blue, dark brown, metal colours like gold, silver, copper, steel, and the eye colours which stand out. The third protagonist is an arrogant, but also an extremely determined proud young man who wants to be a warrior. Since he comes from a royal family, he will have yellow/gold and blue as the main colours, plus a myriad of other very bright colours to signify his proud demeanour. The fourth protagonist, whom I already told you about, is the only protagonist that has red as one of the main colours in the scheme, and I'm afraid pink doesn't suit masculinity very well. Though, he does come from Spain, which is why including some warm colours like those in the sunset would be a good idea. I simply imagine that red & white are rather the colours of family love... I'm not sure why. Probably one of the reasons why I like the combination of red & black so much is that my love stories do tend to contain a lot of passion in them, as well...
But it seems I went overboard with describing my daydreams and ideas again. Sorry about that, hehe. I do hope at least some of this is somewhat interesting...

Thank you . I am very glad that you like it (took several weeks to put everything together).
Although it is not quite good reference in the matter of true knowledge. For example, there is a group of stones called garnets, not just one like here: pyrope and almandine, spessartine, grossulars (including hessonite and tsavorite), uvarovite and andradite, with further divisions. Also I did not included many other stones and colour variations, in fact it is very limited.
Not that in Steven Universe they would be bothered too much about accuracy though ..

Yeah I've been looking up stones and there are a ton and yes many of them are part of groups like you said. Still it is a nice list!
Ha ha! Yes, you're right about Steven Universe. Not always that accurate to the look of the stones!
