For a time they wandered and he followed her wherever she went. Like a shadow that would never leave her side. It was only after she had stumbled upon a healer who treated their wounds did she think about it. The healer, Seeley, had asked them that question. Even offered them a place in her empire. Mars hadn't answered. She'd barely even acknowledged the healer in the first place, even while she treated her wounds. Mars simply stood and walked away. Leaving Leeland to give the healer thanks and follow behind her. Things had taken a turn. He seemed to be doing much of the talking now. But, Mars hardly noticed the change. Her mind was consumed with that offer. She couldn't. She wouldn't. Fire had fallen. Her home had been destroyed and she had been destroyed with it. That pain left her silent and numb to the world. She didn't notice the things around her anymore. The pain of her wounds and hunger in her belly seemed like they were someone else's. After that, they came across others from time to time. Groups that were heading for different empires, to make new homes. With cubs or alone. Mars left each one behind. Never lingering long with them. Leeland followed her each time. He was true to his word. None of them questioned her when she stood up and left their groups. Maybe they understood. Never again. She would never again be part of something like that. Fire had been her one true place. She hadn't always known that but she did now that felt it's absence. She could never be loyal to another empire. Their was no other empire to her. No other place but Fire empire. If it was gone then she would follow suit one day. But for now, until she learned the fate of her friends and family from Fire empire. Mars would remain a rogue, in the company of her equally silent friend.

When Fire fell Mars and Leeland escaped with their lives. Only to find themselves injured and alone. They come across Seeley who treats their wounds and offers them a potential place in Stone empire. They refuse and continue on their way. Over the weeks that follow the fall of empires. Mars comes to the decision that she can never be apart of another empire. So, she unknowingly joins the rogues.
