Description Space Classic
Β©2011 Michael C. Turner ~ Galactic Visions Space Art
Acrylic on stretched canvas (36 X 48") using traditional bristle brush techniques

A ringed extra solar planet (exoplanet) as viewed from the icy surface of its companion in a remote galaxy. This scene is reminiscent of some of the early space art of Chesley Bonestell who was a pioneer of astronomical and space art in the 20th century. His art influenced many space artists with stunning depictions of space decades before the space program. This painting is dedicated in honor of and gratitude to Chesley Bonestell for the positive influence he had, and continues to have, on inquiring minds seeking the wonderment of the Cosmos and all its myriad mysteries . . .

Greetings,

Thank you for your comment Your version is indeed superlative! If Chesley Bonestell were living today, I would think he had personally updated his original classic painting of Saturn from Titan's Surface. In all honesty, you are one of the few digitial artists creating digital art that equals, possibly exceeds, traditional hand-painted works of art. Thank you for including my version [link] of Chesley Bonestell's painting in your favourites.

Wow.... How is this paint! This looks like a photograph from an 80s movie.

Greetings,

Thank you for the compliment . . . It is indeed acrylic on stretched canvas using bristle brushes. It does reqire a tremendous amount of time to put all the details in a painting this size however, it is as though time does not exist when I am painting. I sometimes paint for many hours non-stop and it seems like mere seconds when I finish the session . . .

Kind regards,
Michael C. Turner

Greetings,

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes, I might have altered the rock spires, which actually are the remains of solidified magma/lava tubes from an ancient volcano which eroded away with time. The form and size just seems to fit better the way they are to me. At any rate, the painting was purchased as soon as it was exhibited so any changes would have to be digitally done now. I might try your suggestion sometime on a digitial modification of this painting. I am sure it would be just as interesting as the one I settled on.

Best regards,
Michael C. Turner

Hmm. I kind of wonder if it would look a little more natural if you put a little more variance in the hiegths of those brownish peaks that are at the top. In a way, they almost look like three identical pillars with just a few changes in width and how they're topped off.
Other than that though, the whole painting kind of gives off a myseriouse vibe with everything sort of fading into the shadows as it goes more towards the back where that planet is. I like it. ^_^

Astro boy, I'm speechless! lets just say Mr Bonestell would be very hounoured. This piece is unsurpassed. I love how you have caught the glacial field. And the snow upon the rock outcropping. A tremendous composition. Its all so lavish I just want to touch it.

My hat donned to you sir.

Regards,

M

Ps. I lied about being speechless, as there is so much to compliment it on.

Greetings Lucy,

I appreciate your very kind comments. Geological formations have always been one of my passions and I have focused on such features in my space paintings from the very beginning. Needless to say, after decades of painting, I have had some experience . . .
