Description DL TO FULL VIEW the thing is retardedly huge

MY UNNECESSARILY LONG PRISMACOLOUR MARKER TUTORIAL with really bad spelling

lots of ppl have been asking me how I colour, I hope this can help even tho its really hard to understand and im really bad at explaining things and i dont even know what im doing half the time

original can be found:

total drawing time from sketch to finished scanned copy took me somewhere between 17-25 hours

SUM FAQs:
what medium do you use?
Prismacolor markers [link] I own a few copics, but I prefer prismacolors. Their nibs are harder, and so it's easier to make strong contrasts and bright, saturated blocks of colour. Don't get me wrong, I think copics' soft, brushy look is beautiful, both markers have their own unique style, I just personally prefer Prismacolors c:

where do you buy them?
I bought my first 40-something boxset at Micheals Craft Store back in 8th grade when they had some uber sale going on, since then I buy them on Dickblick.com cuz they're much cheaper xD

have you tried the generic DickBlick version of prismacolor markers?
I have a couple, but i havn't had the need to use them yet D: from what i can tell they're pretty much the same tho...

where do u buy ur white gel pen?
Micheals. I live there. it sucks up all my money. it's bad.

what paper do you use?
- I like to use my Copic brand marker paper best, it's thick and smooth, and so allows for much more color absorbance is that a word?so it's easier to get smooth blending, but regular printer paper works fine too, since it's thinner it gets saturated quicker, but will result in different, but just as nice results : D
some pictures i've done on normal 8.5x11 printer paper: [link] [link] [link]

UHM, theres probably more but i cant remember. IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS, DON'T HESITATE TO ASK 8D

BUT THIS!!! This is useful ha ha >w<
I can't wait to try out the tips

This is very helpful. I use Copic Markers but they are so expensive =C But since they are similar markers the techniques are similar. What do Prismas cost?
Also I really like your idea or using scrapbook paper and stamps. I'd have never thought of that!

Oh man I feel dumb now, I didn't realize you could do anything that amazing with colored markers (or $40 camera for that matter). I imagine there's a lot of crying to be had along the way whenever the wrong color gets committed.

I'm blown away actually. I think that's all I can say at the moment. Brain still processing awesomeness.

wow, that was a long tuturial, but it was awsome anyways. i want to color and do all hat eventually, i hope. that picture of Ceil was really awsome. i didn't know that it took that much work.
2 questions though.
1: How long did it take to color and do the whole thing.
2: Do u do the same thing with some Kingdom Hearts pictures too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Atomic-Clover In reply to adxlynn [2011-02-02 05:21:39 +0000 UTC]

ehg, it's really hard to tell cuz i never clock myself and a picture usually spans a couple weeks, but it's somewhere between 17-25 hours

and yup! i use prismacolor markers to colour all my pictures, this ciel picture tho was the first time i used fancy papers for a background, usually i use prismas to colour the bg

AvidenKanashimi In reply to ??? [2011-02-02 04:43:17 +0000 UTC]

Question!! is the rule of thumb with prismacolors the more colors to blend the better? I'm currently dirt poor but I really wanna try coloring with markers D:. My teacher gave me a set of 8 copics since she doesn't use em, which are like basically a rainbow sans black which was replaced with a skin tone... I mean, is it possible to color with a limited pallet of markers or do I need more ;u;?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Atomic-Clover In reply to AvidenKanashimi [2011-02-02 05:07:17 +0000 UTC]

it depends if you plan on doing a lot of blending and smooth colouring; you can of course get cool looks with just a few colors, but you wont be able to blend them as well as compared to if you had some intermediate colors. ex: you get a gradient from blending Red to yellow, but you get a smoother gradient blending red to orange to yellow; and the more intermediates, obviously, the more gradual the blend will be.
8 markers is definitely a great place to start tho, and nothing's wrong with using cheaper markers in the meantime to get the hang of marker coloring. when i had my first few prismas, i used a rainbow pack of crayolas with them so i had the intermediate colors. they wern't as nice, obviously, but i got practice with them and they did the job until i could afford more prismas c:

AvidenKanashimi In reply to Atomic-Clover [2011-02-02 19:44:57 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see ouo

I shall try using cheap markers in between for smooth blending then! thanks for the help C:.
