Right before we reentered the classroom, I saw someone walking down the hallway towards us, and recognized him immediately. Philip had transferred into my class last year, though this year we were no longer in the same class, but he had managed to leave an impression on me nonetheless. Not that Philip was really particularly outstanding or anything, but seeing him always gave me the strange feeling that he was out of place, in a way. Like he was uncomfortable in his own skin.
"Huh…?" As Celeste hurried me into the classroom I gave Philip another glance, only to find that he was still standing right where he was when I first saw him, eyes wide and mouth half-open. Was he… surprised to see me? I gave Philip a small smile and a quick wave before going in and closing the door behind me, feeling my heart flutter for just a moment. Even though I had definitely noticed that I was getting a lot more looks from people I passed, especially guys… this felt a little different. Maybe it was because I (sort of) knew Philip, or because he was just kind of a cute guy who had stared at me for a bit… but I didn't know for sure.
The rest of the morning passed by rather uneventfully, and as lunch period began I got up from my seat and began to walk out of the classroom. "Hey Celeste, want me to get you something from the cafeteria? They make a pretty good spaghetti bologne- wah!!!" I felt a hand grasp the back of my collar and haul me backwards, and I came face to face with Celeste, who wore an annoyed look on her face. "Nuh uh, no you don't!" She held up a large bag filled with boxes, and shook it gently. "I've made food for the both of us!" "Is it better than the bolognese, though? They put tons of parmesan on top of that, you know…"
"...Okay, this might be better than spaghetti." Dumbfounded was the right word to describe my expression as I stared at the spread of food that sat in between me and Celeste, who had brought me up to the school rooftop to eat the lunch she made. It made sense that we had to come up here, since there probably wouldn't be enough space to put everything if we'd just eaten in the classroom. Meat, vegetables, soup, pasta… It both looked and smelled heavenly, and I couldn't stop my stomach from growling as I saw them. How long had it been since I'd had a properly nice meal like this? Well, if ever…
"These were Mistress' favorite foods!" Celeste enthusiastically heaped food onto my plate, giving me a bit of everything. "I… may have gotten a little carried away, but I hope you enjoy them!" "I have a feeling I will!" I speared a piece of chicken with my fork, brought it to my mouth, and chewed. "Holy… shit." "You like it?" Celeste's eyes practically shone as she smiled, genuine joy clear in her expression, and in response I simply chowed down on a few more pieces of chicken. The sauce she'd grilled them in was heavenly…
"Huh…" As Celeste began eating as well, I glanced around the rooftop, at the other classmates who were also having their lunches, their own conversations. Here we were sitting right in the midst of them, a pair of foxgirls (it still felt kind of weird thinking of myself as one), and they were all none the wiser. There was something that still felt kinda surreal about our whole situation… and it almost made me think, were there other supernatural beings around us that we didn't know of, hidden in plain sight? Maybe I should ask Celeste about that…
