Description April 1, 2019; Tartarus

Lucifer glared down at the gang with his violent burning eyes, his enormous armor creaking and moaning against itself as he held up his fist and thrust it down towards them.  Everyone scattered as the flaming fingers crashed into the ground and sent fiery debris everywhere.  Ava ducked behind a rock, scrambling to take out her pistol.  She breathed heavily in fear as she peaked out from around her hiding spot and pulled the trigger as many times as she could until the gun clicked.  The bullets shrieked through the air, and hit Lucifer's armor square.  Not even a dent.

Lucifer laughed, a bassy malicious sound, and he held up his hand.  The spaces between his armor plates glowed orange as flames erupted from them and formed a swirling ball of fire.  He reared back, and pitched his attack straight at Ava's hiding spot, which disintegrated in a hail of debris.  Ava rolled away just in time to flee and find another place to take cover.  A few of her friends were there as well, while the others were attempting their own attacks on the behemoth to equally no avail down below.

“We need a plan,” she said through panicked breaths.

“I got a plan,” Kevin said, morphing his metal fist into a hammer.  Suddenly he sprang out from his hiding spot and charged at Lucifer with a yell.  He lunged upwards, rearing his weapon back.

And then Lucifer spun around and slammed the back of his hand into Kevin’s body, which went flying across the arena with a whimpered clang.

“Great plan,” Chelsea face palmed.

“We need a new plan,” Ava said.

“Anyone got a new plan?” Ruby asked.

“I have a new plan!”

Everyone shouted and jumped.  A flash of blue light appeared, and soon following it was a man in a pristine white lab coat, smiling at them all as if there wasn't a giant battle with mecha-Satan going on in the background.

“Professor!” Ruby said.  “What the hell?”

“Do you only show up when it seems like we literally have no other way out of these holes?” Chelsea asked.

“He tends to do that a lot,” Gwen called from down below.

“Man if you have a way out of this it's fine by me,” Ava said.  “What do you got?”

Professor Paradox smiled, and stepped to his side, revealing a crate behind him.  “I believe this is a good time to present Ruby's gift, wouldn't you say?” he asked.

Ruby's eyes widened, and she grinned ear to ear.  “Dude I love you!” she cheered, grabbing Ava by the hand and dragging her to the box.  “I was really hoping to save this for your birthday, Champ, but whatever.”

“What is it?” Ava asked as Ruby flipped up the locks.

“Okay so I always felt bad about the Armor of Gabriel getting destroyed because honestly you flying around was awesome as hell.  So… I've been working on this for the past few months.”

Ruby flipped the lid up and kicked the front panel of the box down, and the contents stood there for all to see.  Ava tilted her head.  It looked like a backpack mixed with a bunch of military hardware.  Then suddenly it clicked in her head, and her jaw slowly lowered.

“Wait… wait are you serious?  You can do that?” she gasped to her girlfriend.

“Put it on, time's wasting!” Ruby clapped excitedly.  “Let's add kicked the Devil's ass twice to our resumes!”

Ava grinned ear to ear and grabbed the harness.  She slipped the straps over her shoulders and clicked all of the buckles into place.  She felt the weight of the mechanisms in the back, just waiting to be sprung.  Her hands slipped into the controls, which lit up as they connected.  She could feel the thrusters in the back getting ready to go.

“Arlie!” the roaring voice of Lucifer demanded, accompanied by the sight of one of their friends getting smacked into the air again.  “Aren't you going to come out and fight?”

“This button activates the guns,” Ruby leaned in and told Ava.

“Am I too frightening?” Lucifer laughed as he looked around.  “Have I finally shattered that iron nerve you got from Aren?  Not so tough without my baby brother isn’t here to hold your hand?”

Suddenly there was a whirring noise, followed by a rattling that accompanied a hail of bullets raining down into Lucifer's face.  He winced and leaned backwards a little bit in surprise, and when he uncovered his eyes he looked up to see a figure hovering downwards in front of him.  Her wings were outstretched, her thrusters going, and her mounted arm gun still smoking.  Ava looked him dead in the eye.

“We don't need your baby brother to kick your ass,” she declared.

Lucifer snarled, and lunged forward to grab her.  She boasted her thrusters, and soared back with her bullets swarming the monster.  Lucifer winced, but he kept thrashing his flaming arms around, trying to swat her out of the sky.  Ava kicked her thrusters again, this time straight at him.  She delivered a hard kick to his face, then another, and landed a punch as well before Lucifer swatted upwards again.  She dodged and flew back to the edge of the arena, flicking out her hidden blades as she spun back around.  But her confidence was dented when she saw that Lucifer still wasn't.  He was hurt, but not in any useful manner.  He still looked up at her, and grinned with his hands aflame.  He hurled another fireball at her, and she dodged, and so began another ballet around the arena.

She kept trying to unload her ammo onto the monster, while her friends below unleashed all of their attacks as well.  There still seemed to be no avail, and Ava grit her teeth in frustration.

“Come on…” she said to herself through gritted teeth.

“I'm invincible kiddos!  With these artifacts, I have unlimited power!” Lucifer mocked.

Then suddenly a lightbulb went off in Ava's brain.  She looked back to his chest, where the Hands of Armageddon and the Apple of Eden made for a very attractive target as they glowed.  Lucifer continued to laugh, and Ava used her chance to aim her gun again and unleash another round, this time aimed directly at the artifacts.

Lucifer's laughing stopped immediately.  Each bullet hit his chest piece square, and each of them wrenched out sparks from his armor.  Their foe roared in pain, and his armor creaked as he was stunned.

“His chest, aim for his chest!” Ava shouted to the others.

Lucifer growled, but the others were already upon him.  Gwen took the first easy shots at the artifacts in his armor.  She hurled her pink orbs from her fists, and sent him falling against the edge of his hole in pain.  He roared, and chunks of his armor began to crack and fade.  Ava could see little light grids appearing in the holes, like a digital model being deconstructed.  She smiled.  Round two was going to them.

Kevin helped the others get better shots at the chest, dodging Lucifer's punches and fireballs and giving jump boasts to Dusk and Catherine and the others so they could shoot and hit.  Chelsea got in close as much as she could to pound her electric brass knuckles into the chest piece as many times as she could until she had to jump away again.  Jess and Catherine took a more palatable amount of swings per pass by with their batons.  Ruby meanwhile kept to her guns, literally.

Ava flew around the arena, taking shots of her own.  She caught the sight of a green flash out of the corner of her eye, and when she looked to her left she saw Ben back in the form of the blue crystal alien from earlier.  He held his hands up, and unleashed a hail of crystal darts at the target.

“Now this is how I like things to go!” Ava cheered.

“Honestly I'm surprised it's going this smooth,” Ben grinned.

“No wait don't, you'll jinx it!” Jess warned.

“Enough of this!” Lucifer suddenly roared.

“God… dammit…”

The cracks of the armor that hadn't been dissipated into fading light grids glowed a malicious red as flames erupted forth from them.  Lucifer opened his mouth and shrieked, and the flames burst out from all directions.  Everyone tried to duck for cover, but many of them got caught in the blasts and were sent flying into the walls with a painful thud.  Ava's eyes widened, and she kicked her thrusters to try to dodge.  But one of the flame jets hit her wing, and she went into a spiral.

“No no no not again!” she shrieked as her harness beeped in warnings.  She tried to get control back, but she smacked into a wall of ice, and she suddenly found herself hurdling into the ground.  She landed on the edge of her wing, and it snapped on impact.  Ava went tumbling in a smoking pile of tech, something which felt oddly familiar at this point.  She came to a painful stop, covered in bruises and bleeding in many places.

“Goddammit… Guess the Armor of Gabriel had a better shelf life…” she said as she tried to stand back up.  But just as she pushed against the ground, she suddenly felt the massive hand of Lucifer crash down onto her.  She yelled in pain and tried to break free, but only managed to turn herself around to face him as he pinned her.  He looked down menacingly, holding up his glitching fist for a devastating punch.

“Ava!” Ben called out.  She looked over just in time to see him running forward from the corner of his eye.  Unfortunately, Lucifer saw him as well.  Just as Ben got within distance, Lucifer swept his arm to the side and smacked Ben backwards.  Ben screamed as he fell backwards, directly into the bottomless pit that Lucifer was situated in.  He fell into the blackness, his screams getting quieter and quieter as the shadows surrounded him.

“Ben!” Kevin yelled.

“No!” Gwen cried.

“You've always been a pain in my ass, Arlie,” Lucifer snarled down at his foe.  “So I'm going to enjoy this.  Don't worry.  Death is very painful, trust me!”  He laughed, too caught up in his monologuing to notice the enormous flash of green light that suddenly erupted from the pit behind him.  “So be sure to tell Aren I said I sent you!” Lucifer laughed as he raised up his fist to deliver a punch.

Then suddenly the shadow passed over Ava's face.

Lucifer noticed the darkness pass over him too.  Everyone froze, and Ava gasped as a figure suddenly started rising up behind Lucifer.  First just came the fin on top of its head.  Then two massive hands clasped down on the edge of the pit, pushing the rest of the figure out story by story.  Lucifer's grip loosened a little as he turned around in shock.  He craned his neck upwards with everyone else, jaw agape.  The world shook as the figure rose higher, and higher.  The Omnitrix symbol shined in the middle of this new form's chest, and the towering white and red giant glared down with green eyes from a hundred stories up, and he let out his declaration.

“Way Big!” his voice boomed through the arena.

“Ho...ly… shi…” Ruby gasped.

Ben glared down at Lucifer, and held up a fist of his own, itself about as big as Lucifer was in this form.  He swung his arm around, and slapped Lucifer clean across the room.  Ava took the chance to kick up the last working hardware of her thrusters to give her a boost away and get back to her feet.  She ran back to her friends, and Ruby hugged her tight.  Then they all turned back towards Ben to watch the show.

Lucifer got tossed around like a ping pong ball, not even able to land a punch as Way Big swatted him back and forth in as many directions as possible.  Ben grabbed him by the collar, and dragged him along the edge, not relenting or holding any punches.  Then he stepped back, and tossed Lucifer to the other side of the room like an old ragdoll.  Lucifer's head lulled as he struggled to get up.  He wasn't able to process what was about to happen.  Ben stood back, and held up his arms, crossing them over each other.  A ball of blue energy suddenly formed at the intersection point, pulsing and growing as Ben leaned down and took aim.  Then a violent beam surged out, and Lucifer only had time to scream “no!” before it smacked directly into him, focused firmly on his chest, and his screams warped and glitched out as his armor collapsed into a grid, and fizzled away into thin air.

The beam stopped, and Ben looked down.  Lucifer wasn't there anymore, only a smoldering hole where he used to be.  And at the center was the artifacts, detached and out of evil hands at least.

The others cheered, and Ava ran up to grab the artifacts.  Ben hit the dial on his chest, and in a flash he shrank back down, and ran over to join up with the others.

“Dude that was wicked!” Catherine cheered.

“I know,” Ben said proudly.

“Why didn't you do that from the start-?” Dusk half-whispered.

“Now we just gotta figure out what to do with these,” Ava said, smiling victoriously as she propped up the artifacts.

“How about give them back to me?” a voice roared from the pit.

Everyone let out an irritated sigh.  They turned around, and sure enough, there was Lucifer, back to normal size, his armor sparking and ripped to shreds, and his scarred flesh no better off.  He hovered out of the darkness, his suit sputtering and glitching just like the end of the last fight he had with the Assassins.

“You aren't going to take me out that easily!” he snarled.

“I think we just did,” Kevin said.

“As long as I still stand, I will keep seeking my revenge!  I will destroy you all and your universes!  I am the Devil himself!  I am-!”

Jess leaned in toward Ben as their beaten foe went off on his tangent.  “Hey, can I put in a suggestion?” she asked.  “You know what Satan's punishment in Dante's Inferno was?”

“No?”

“Frozen solid in a giant block of ice,” Ruby said, smiling.

A similar smile grew on Ben's face.  He reached for his watch, dialing up a hologram and slamming his palm down on the cylinder.  He flashed green, and emerged from the glow as the blue moth man from the start of this whole adventure.

“Big Chill!” he rasped, unfurling his wings and jumping up to hover in front of Lucifer.

“That's the best you've got, space boy?” Lucifer laughed.  “I'll squash you like the bug you ar-”

“Dude.  Shut up,” Ben droned.  Then suddenly he took a deep breath, and a burst of frost-bitten air shot out from his lungs.  The cloud lurched forward, engulfing Lucifer's arm as he reached out in protest.

“What?  No!  N-!” he started to shout before the cloud reached his face.  Ben fluttered around, making sure to breathe as big a cloud as possible.  Ava could hear the sounds of ice crystals crackling as they formed and built up on each other.  The plume of frost swirled and began to fade as Ben fluttered back to the ground and closed his mouth.  As the ice dust settled, the group got a good look at the result.  The pit was sealed up tight, clogged by a massive iceberg that would give the Titanic reason to think twice.  And at the center, flesh frozen blue and armor lights just as faded as his life, with his jaw frozen in a perpetual shout, was Lucifer.

Assassins, 2

The Devil himself, 0

“Well,” Ruby said, putting her hands on Ava and Ben's shoulders, “you gotta admit…”

“Ruby no,” Ava said.

“That was really…”

“I will punch you,” Chelsea warned.

“I won't stop her,” Ava agreed.

“...cool.”

fwbam!

Ruby fell to the ground like a plank of wood, and Chelsea shook her knuckles to get the ache out.  Ava tried to suppress a smile as she put a hand to her face.  She hoisted her girl up onto her shoulders, and nodded for someone to pick up the artifacts.

“Come on guys,” she said.  “Let’s go home.  I've had enough of being in Hell.”
