So... my grandfather passed away a couple days ago.

He'd been struggling with cancer for a while, and even though he fought it hard, it was bound to catch up with him eventually. Honestly I thought he was going to last until today There seemed to be a part of him that was cognizant enough to want that sort of narrative aspect to the end of his life by passing on Memorial Day. But unfortunately, he didn't make it. My whole family's been shaken up the past few days, as you can imagine.

He was a good guy. I don't have a lot of memories of him, since I lived on the opposite side of the state from him most of my life. But the memories I do have of him are all good ones, especially the recent ones where I do live close by now and he was always supportive of helping me overcome my anxiety issues. It hurts to see him go, but at least he's not suffering anymore. And at least I have those memories. He would've thought that's the most important part. He wasn't the kind of guy who wanted a lot of attention outside his own circle. He even requested that he not be given a funeral and that he be buried anonymously in Arlington Cemetery with his fellow veterans.

So in that memory, I drew this as my own sort of memorial to him. He and I bonded a lot over my stories and the history stuff they involve, so I figured this was a fitting way to give a sort of salute to him. There's a one off I wrote that's attached to this picture too:
