Description
Recently, I started hearing peeps from one of the bushes by our front porch. Upon further investigation, I spotted a nest with several baby mocking birds. I could barely see their little beaks, but I think there were 3 of them. Sure enough, within minutes one of the parent birds came by and went into the bush to feed the fledglings. After several days of watching their activities, yesterday, I spotted this little one just in time for it's first flight out of the bush to see the world. The parent bird was up on the roof calling it and it flew off. Now they have all gone, So I am very glad the timing was perfect for this one photo of Buddy.I want to dedicate this little bird to my Daughter Tea who is the Queen Mother of all non-human children. Tea, I know you will love little Buddy as it will remind you so much of Sunny-Peeps. I would like to think this one is a descendant.
A couple years ago, Tea helped in choosing a name for another bird in our yard. That one we rescued after it had fallen from it's nest in our huge back yard tree. Tea also gave me some tips on editing the photo. The bird was given the name Sunny-Peeps.
If you would like to read about Sunny-Peeps rescue story, please click on the photo below.
I would like to encourage everyone to support Tea and .

What IS "The Shelter Project"?
"The Shelter Project" is an ongoing charitable project, that seeks teamwork in order to raise funds for animals in need- usually those who need rescuing, medical help, to be spayed or neutered, etc.,- animals that need food, shelter, ongoing medical treatment, and for animals who are waiting for adoption to a new home. The project does this, primarily through purchases of a wide variety of artistic works available, by Tea of Tea Photography.
"The Shelter Project" is NOT one person's project. It is the TEAM'S project. Never once, could any one person do any of this

for your kind comment. He is very sweet and cute and he was so tiny when we found him in that bush by our front door. He survived with the help of his mom bird calling and guiding him from the roof top and that is the important thing.

Mockingbirds are incredible, there use to be one that sat atop of a coffee shop/fast food place that I use to work at he'd be there early morning and cycle through all the sounds he heard that day it was incredible to listen to. I heard him mimic the sounds of an entire flock of gulls from a distance.

Heh Mockingbirds are amazing birds they actually seek out new sounds to learn very intelligent animals. Much like Crows and Ravens keep an eye out for anything to interest them.

my dear friend Philippe for your kind comment. It was indeed a split decision timing. Had I waited another second I would have missed it entirely. Lucky shot one could say. Lol

for your kind comment. The mother bird was on my roof calling to this little one and I think it was trying to figure out how to get to her. He took off a few moments later and I was amazed he could fly that high at such a young age.

That's a good thing he was able to get there! And I bet watching him try to work it out was so very cute--this image definitely is.

It happened really fast. As soon as I took this shot it flew off. I did see him later in my back yard tree but he was out of range to get a good shot of him. I was very lucky to get the one I did. He is really cute. I love birds. I can see you do too by your lovely avatar.

Birds are so cute. There was a robin that made a nest on my windowsill the other year and it was so nice to see the chicks grow up and become fully feathered. (I could only move the blinds in a certain space but it was so worth it!) And those little bitty chirps when momma was going back and forth with food for them! It was just amazing.

They sure are. At times when I wake up in the middle of the night and my bathroom window is open I can hear the mocking birds singing a whole lot of different songs. They like to perch in my backyard tree during the night.

That's gotta be so nice to be able to sleep to! Or maybe have your morning coffee to...depends what time it wakes you up though.
Had a mockingbird try to steal a necklace once, probably because it was shining? As mean as mockingbirds can be though, they have some pretty patterns on their feathers.

Yes they can be mean but when they are very young they seem to be pretty tame.

Always good. They're always great to watch anyway--I wish that we had a sitting area in this yard so I could watch them and the other birds in the area. XD

Thank you so very much for your kind words not only about my photo but also about my daughter Tea.
I was very lucky to get this shot as the mom bird was on the roof of my house at the time trying to entice this little one to fly to her. She had a worm hanging from her beak at the time and I was trying my best to get the shot. Lool. As soon as I took it he went straight up to her. It was amazing to see how high he could go being so tiny and young.

You are always so welcome Denyse. No need to thank me where Tea is concerned I like her from the very moment I have come to know her. She has been a wonderful friend. One of the most beautiful and lovely people I know. I am sure it was enjoyable to watch this cute little baby. You got a pretty decent shot for it being so high up there.

Thank you so much. I am glad to know you feel that way. I was very lucky to get this particular shot as the mom bird was nearby calling out to this little one and the minute I took this shot it flew up on the roof to join her. I was surprised it could fly that well it was such a young one.
