Description FULLVIEW PLEASE :3

This is an Inkscape chibi tutorial that I did quite quickly... I hope it can help somebody. It's a darned fast way of making chibis-- the fastest I've found.

All it takes is Inkscape and a bit of time and effort. ^^

I don't have the patience to draw straight in Inkscape.
I tried and failed:

ps colored in GIMP

I don't usually have the patience to draw characters directly in Inkscape, either... well, anything other than a chibi. I HAVE done full-sized characters in Inkscape, but it was more timely than tracing a hand-drawn sketch.

But using this method, I can draw chibis quite quickly.

With some practice and patience, I'm sure you could draw directly in Inkscape as well. ^^

I tried, and I personally didn't like the experience. Drawing there directly is really slow and tedious. I vector my drawings in GIMP, so I can color them directly. And I'm used to GIMP
I'm lazy to learn Inkscape.

That reminds me of my first experiences with vectoring... in MS Powerpoint! lulz... Now THAT was the slowest and most tedious.

That reminds me, I still owe it to myself to sit down and learn GIMP (I do virtually everything in Inkscape). Maybe after I finish learning how to use Blender. ^___^

In any event, should the need ever arise for you to use Inkscape (say, if someone locks you in a room with a Linux PC with only Inkscape installed, no CD drive or USB slots, and no internet connection in sight), then maybe C-chan's Inkscape Tutorial of Old might come in handy:

It's a bit too detailed and unfinished (ends right before Pattern Fills), but covers all of the basics. ^__^

GenshiHebi In reply to C-quel [2009-01-28 02:42:10 +0000 UTC]

that's still thorough even if it's still unfinished ^ ^

and did you make those other files in that site? cool xp-recovery and 2k with linux-tan was cute!

Oh no, that directory is just a dumping site for anything I want to link here in DeviantArt. The 2K+Linux picture was created by an anonymous Japanese artist (I would have drawn the reverse,... `v' ), while the XP-recovery one is simply a draft copy.

The final was posted recently in my gallery, so go ahead and check it out if you'd like -- it's way cooler/cuter than that copy. ^^

yeah it is way cooler/cuter!

by the way, the DSL-kun there made me lmao... Firefox won't even zoom in to the point that he's bigger than my icons.

BWAHAHAHA!!!!! >v<

Yeah, you could say that's a life-sized pic... *chortle chortle* ^^

Impossible to see any detail in the raster, so be sure to open the SVG in Inkscape to zoom in properly. -v-

Might officially post the boy up in his own scrap piece later, given all the attention the DSL+CE pic has garnered.

GenshiHebi In reply to C-quel [2009-01-29 06:11:55 +0000 UTC]

that was a raster!?!?! I thought that was SVG? XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

C-quel In reply to GenshiHebi [2009-01-29 06:17:50 +0000 UTC]

It is, but the way Firefox displays it is as a kind of thumbnail image. Zoom in and all you see is heavy pixelation, so in a way it's practically a raster graphic. ^^

BTW, don't want to hijack poor Bella's comment section, so I'll leave it at that. ^.^

I finished my response bombardment anyway, so it'll take a few days off to work on my other projects. ^___^

Fufufu... copy and paste all of Katt-chan's comments here too. ^^

I'm trying to remember when, if at all, we discussed Pardus-tan's design. At least she's out there now for sure, so this tutorial served TWO great purposes! ^v^

Thanks for creating this, Bella-sama! ^v^

Again,... once your B-day pic is done,.... I'll run this by my ever watchful... *snicker snicker chortle chortle*... inkscape eye. ^____^'

Thank you!

But.. there was already a Pardus-tan made, you know. ^^'

[link]

...Course, it was created when I still had a fear of drawing full-sized characters, so it's not all that great nor memorable.

C-quel In reply to BellaCielo [2009-01-27 05:40:13 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, that IS a bit paleolithic,... ^___^
But I did have a slight sense of deja vu when I saw the new chibi Pardus-tan, so maybe I still kinda-sorta remembered her back in the inner recesses of my brain. ^.^;

Kattlanna [2009-01-19 01:03:41 +0000 UTC]

Pardus-tan! That's a character I haven't seen in a long time!

Anyways, excellent job with this tutorial too! I like that it is detailed but not too cluttered with stuff (i.e: you just briefly showed how to do the eyes and hair but didn't go into depth about it because the topic of the tutorial is making chibis)!

BellaCielo In reply to Kattlanna [2009-01-27 03:33:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, Kattlanna-san. ^^

And you are correct; eyes and faces are a topic unto themselves, and this tutorial mostly demonstrates techniques for making quick chibis in Inkscape.

Yup. The other day I did a GDM theme, and for some mystical reason I needed Inkscape... I still don't know how I managed to do it altough it was very basic. xD
