im confused about something on the consonants chart...
there are two circles on the far left, one with a line below and one with a line in between. what is the difference between the two of them? cuz i just have no idea, they both look exactly the same O3O

The line represents the edge of the word circle. Letters like J are "inside" the word circle, and letters like TH are "on the edge of" the word circle.

This is really helpful c: thank you for making a guide that's simple enough to follow! I was wondering, though, when you have a 'T' in a word that makes the 'Sh' sound, which letter do you use? Or does it not matter either way?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlackHatGuy In reply to SushiTheVampire-Girl [2013-03-16 12:38:35 +0000 UTC]

I generally use the T, but I think people would understand either way.

Lovely translator.

How do you open the translator once you've downloaded it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

BlackHatGuy In reply to MrsTiggular66 [2013-03-14 11:02:39 +0000 UTC]

Open the .jar file. If you have the most recent version of Java, it should run on its own.

Woowweee Spent a good hour last night playing with this and a pen and paper I got bit carried away and made a mistake....I overlapped the circle letters because none of them had dips in them.... is this allowed??
Anyway...AMAZING I'm surprised the BBC haven't got hold of you...it would be sooo amazing if next episode of DrW had translatable Gallifreyan in it! :3 xxx

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlackHatGuy In reply to Aikatarina [2013-03-09 20:01:48 +0000 UTC]

So long as you can tell which letter's which, anything's allowed. Thank you so much, although I doubt they'd contact meβ€”they need to keep up the mystery of the Doctor's name after all!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

TheFreebornFanatic In reply to ??? [2013-03-04 09:46:34 +0000 UTC]

Why is there no C? And why do we have to use a K or S instead of it? Does it make a difference which one we use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlackHatGuy In reply to TheFreebornFanatic [2013-03-04 22:20:30 +0000 UTC]

From the FAQ of the guide:

Why isn’t there a C?
Because I had one too many letters and C was redundant. When I made the alphabet, I had no clue it would inconvenience so many people. If you feel that you absolutely have to write a C, write it like a K but with four dots. Similarly, a Q (not a QU) is written like a TH, but with four dots.

TheFreebornFanatic In reply to BlackHatGuy [2013-03-05 03:00:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I got that I think, though I'm having difficulty understanding how the vowels work. I think it's the diagram that's confusing me.

This really helped me understand how to put the letters together to make words, thank you! But I still can't get how to put the sentence together.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BlackHatGuy In reply to kitty000kat [2013-02-28 02:06:32 +0000 UTC]

Exact same way you put the words togetherβ€”counterclockwise from the bottom.

What if you have to vowels in a row, do you connect them both to the previous consonant, or attach the first one to the consonant and leave the second one separately attached to the main word circle???

The writing in the show is meaningless. It's just random cool-looking circles made up by BBC.
