This is my guide to an easier way to make jewelry and other crafts with Epoxy Resin. I think it's rather simple and easy to follow. I only proof read this once so if there's any errors please let me know. :] Any questions let me know and I'll try and help. Remember this is my SECOND time working with resin ever. This is just my way.

I couldn't find any tutorials of resin being used this way. So I had to just try and learn myself and I'm posting this to help anyone who was looking as hard as me.

I hate when artist hide their secret to crafting thinking it will cut their sales in half or what not. I believe you should share some techniques and help others learn. If you like the artist enough you'll still buy from them anyways. And I hope by posting this I don't lose the support of my buyers.

If you follow this tutorial and get everything pictured I can almost assure you you won't spend more than 55 bucks.
And that's saying you don't have stickers, anything to sand with, no cups, etc etc. When I started with resin all I needed was the resin and the molds. Cost me 30 bucks right there.

You're welcome. I get my molds everywhere, online or at the craft stores. Just compare prices first.

So question (cuz I finally have money, and I'm greatly encouraged by my boyfriend), does the glue you have mentioned for the pins, really worked for you? I read to use a drill, but I don't have that much $$ on me. And since I've been looking up lots of tutorials, yours is the first to glue the pins. Just wondering because I would like to do pendants. I'm starting off with rings.

BloodCross In reply to jelikattebayo [2013-01-30 21:27:50 +0000 UTC]

Because it's an epoxy based resin glue it's the same as the resin just it dries way faster. So yes, it works, and works well. I no longer use this type of method because I have perfected my work over the years and I simply just didn't like the way it looked. But to answer your question it does work. A drill is much neater looking but isn't necessary it also can be more dangerous if you're not careful, I would not recommend a drill to a newcomer.

jelikattebayo In reply to BloodCross [2013-01-31 06:35:33 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I'm debating about it too because as you said, it does not look nice, but I don't want to use a drill either, so I'm not really sure what else to do. I was thinking about putting some kind of pin in the resin while it cures, just spraying some mold release conditioner that way maybe I can pull it out and place the pin in there with glue. Haven't started on anything yet. :/

BloodCross In reply to jelikattebayo [2013-02-05 03:56:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, if you can get it to fit in the mold while it cures that would work. But not really sure how to go about that. You can always buy those screw in hooks and just twist and screw them in.

Thank you for the tutorial Did you need to bake your resin after taking it out of the moulds? My teacher baked our class resin projects but I heard it takes ages and it smell bad.

does the resin ever stick in the molds?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BloodCross In reply to shanna66 [2012-08-01 18:20:53 +0000 UTC]

Only if you don't mix it enough or you measure wrong. I suggest measuring accurately. This tutorial is old and from trial and error I've realized measuring is very necessary.

From the intel I viewed on West System's website, it looks a little more complicated than a simple 1 to 1 mix.

This tutorial is old. I measure a more accurately now. But it's an even mix of both mixtures. At least for the resin that I buy from Home Depo. :]

i has a question: how do u glue the resin glue on? do u just put the eye pin on the back of the charm then glue the resin glue over it? also where do u get the the eye pins?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BloodCross In reply to InvadrLexi [2011-06-30 00:37:41 +0000 UTC]

I just place the eye pins on the back and then mix up the epoxy glue and dab some on. You have find eye pins online or in any craft store, I think walmart has some too.

BlackThornRose In reply to BloodCross [2011-03-07 02:42:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh! I do have one question: When you go putting the resin in the mold, do you put the stick in first, or pour some resin, then insert the sticker?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BloodCross In reply to BlackThornRose [2011-03-08 20:12:14 +0000 UTC]

Pour some in then the sticker. I recommend working in layers as the stickers tend to float and the sprinkles or glitter can actually leak under the sticker- ruining the image.
