I made a big mistake with this startrail. For the second time in a row I forgot to dial in my custom white balance. The camera tries its best but the auto white balance setting leads to unnatural star colours. Until I get around to manually changing the white balance on all the RAW files this will have to do for now.
Some of you may be wondering why I didn't have my astrophotography setup out on a good night like this. The truth is I have had a back/hip problem for the last two weeks and I physically can not lift the heavy mount. Hopefully recover soon.

I still like it
If it wasn't for the unnatural coloured stars in the top right corner I'd say most of the stars were of a natural colour at a glance

Thanks Shaun Yeah it's the worst up in the top right there, but it's still evident throughout. Bright red Mars is one of the bright trails down the bottom but it looks white in this.

Sooo...what's your custom white balance like? Do you use something close to the colors of the stars or something?

Yeah after a heap of experimentation I have worked out the Kelvin Temperature for the White Balance for my dark sky location to give natural star colours. Some examples when I actually remember to change the WB [link] and [link] Leaving it on auto produces to many 'brown' stars for my liking. I will sit down one day and manually change the white balance of all the sub frames to this shot but at 245 subframes I'll leave it for a very rainy day. This will have to do for now.
