I'm having a hard time believing this is done. A personal full colour piece (the first in a long while) which served as a practise on many things and turned out decent at that, with the help of many wonderful people both from DA and ConceptArt.I've had these questions a lot in it's progress while I was streaming, so I'll answer them to avoid having to answer them again in comments; every scale on the dragon as well as every strand of grass was hand drawn. I did not use any custom brushes, the standard hard-edge brush was used for the entire piece, with a few strokes of a soft edge brush here and there. Textures were used only for the rocks, and one for the base of the grass which I painted over so much that it was practically of no use xD.
I'd like to thank everyone that watched me work on this on LiveStream for their support and interest, and just for the fun :3. As well as those who read the entire description ;D.

omg! how do u do the scales and not go crazy! @.@ mostly when i draw i just go for the Dragonriders of Pern look cause scales make me nuts :/

I did go crazy a little bit eventually xD But it simply had to be done. KaiserFlames does an awesome job at drawing the Pern dragons, I quite like the look of them!

Not to say that the tut is bad, it was really helpful especially to me but... hm, yeah, this to me is far more impressive.
Anyhow! I LOVE the detail! The scales and the grass really pull me in, and I love the clean landscaping. Cx Did you pretty much do this by hand? Like no 'special effects' brushes like in grass...

You need to do a tutorial your backgrounds are so amazing! (its suppose to be a compliment, you don't have too.) That grass must have taken forever.

Good lord that grass must have taken you a very long time! It was well worth it though, because the whole piece looks amazing. I love the bright palette you chose to use, it feels very fresh.

Absolutely stunning. The scales on the dragon looks wonderful, and it has a clean and crisp feeling.
Out of curiosity, what was the size of the canvas, and how many layers did you use to finish this?

The original canvas size is 2765x1875px and I used 11 layers in total (and that's a lot for me)

oh wow, only one thing would have made it more amazing and that'd have been a photograph like depth of field(so stuff fades out a little more towards the background, and also further away in the foreground." but still wow.
