I had not read Mapleshade's Vengeance yet, but I bet this part's a sad part. Especially after what we learned from Mapleshade in Crookedstar's Promise.

I also found Mapleshade's Vengeance a bit disappointing, but I think I know why it wasn't as good as all the others. The Erin Hunters seem to be preoccupied with Dawn of the Clans and the others series, and as noticed in Bramblestar's Storm, it was quite obvious that they were just writing these to get them out of the way. I won't give any spoilers, but in Bramblestar's Storm they actually mixed up Graystorm's kits and Bluestar's. But I did like Mapleshade's Vengeance a bit, just because I liked Mapleshade as a character and I wanted to know her story. Though it wasn't as impressive as the other books.

mapleshade's vengeance could've been a lot better imo. i'm glad we got her backstory but i was so disappointed to learn how generic and predictable it was.

Yeah, though I find it kind of odd.
Appledusk got off pretty much without any sort of harsh punishment like Mapleshade did.
And in all other cases in the books, these cats were usually shown more mercy. The way they wrote it made it seem like the leader was just bitter towards her for using his son's name. Also, they didn't bother to give any real explanation as to why the leaders both rejected her, just a mere 'You've broken the code and we don't accept you.'
There are so many cats that did this, Bluestar, Oakheart, Graystripe, Silverstream, Tigerstar... All of them had no real direct punishment as a result of breaking this code. It was just Mapleshade.
