Description
Before using please read my terms of use: [link] . You must credit me. I would love to see how you use this.Unlike other aquatic birds, Anhingas lack the oils to waterproof their feathers. So they have to bask to dry out before they can fly after a dive. They are also called snakebirds, since they're swim with just their head and neck sticking out of the water. Basically they're a freshwater version of cormorants.
****EDIT****
I'M SO EXCITED. I never thought I would get a Daily Deviation!!!! Thanks for all the support, favorites, and comments. A big thanks to PirateLotus Stock for the suggestion. I'd thank ya'll individually, but I tried and DA thought I was a spambot -_-.

great photo!!! Well deserved DD.... and what makes me love it more is the interesting info about the bird that you provided. I didn't even know this bird existed... now I do and know some interesting facts to go along with seeing such a great photo. Up where my Dad lives... there is a bird sanctuary... its huge. Anyway there are all kinds of birds there. Tons of birds that like water... and other kinds that prefer the wooded area. Once I get a good camera, I plan to go there and try and get some photos. However there are miles and miles for the birds to hid from me and my camera lol... and they probably will.

this is a beautiful shot of a beautiful bird, i just wanted to ask if it was a cormorant when i read your comment, so cool... thank you for pointing out with their missing waterproof, we have cormorants around the corner here and my little daughter spotted a lot of them sitting in the trees with their wings spread... so next time we'll be out on a walk at that place i can tell her why they do that...
i came here through "more like this" and i just see you got a DD for this - bravo and belated congrats...

It's an ahinga, a freshwater/brackish water species of the Cormorant species to clarify. Thanks

Yes and no, the species exhibits sexual dimorphism. The females have a brown head. This guy is a male. But they all sun like that
