Description
...::EDIT::...Larger and edited file on request.
Several people were complaining about the small font. Leaving critiques and comments are more than welcome, but I just don't like it when people use my tutorials and at the same time nitpick about the smallest things and don't even leave a "thank you" note.
So for those who do appreciate the 30 hours I spent in writing and drawing this tutorial: I uploaded a larger file. You can click download for full size.
...Whoa...
This is a MASSIVE tutorial I did in only 2 freakin' days! LOL.
I said I would do a gift for you all because someone hit the 60.000 pageviews. Besides, I got over 1550 watchers and my drawings of Vincent and House got over 1000 favourites.
Ooohh look at the pretty colors. My previous tutorials look quite boring compared to this baby.
Ehm... what else to say...
Have fun!

Tortillions cannot be reused except for smudged areas.
However, blendingsticks can be used more often if you sharpen them with a pencil sharpener or sandpaper!!

)

...Hmm...My art teacher took my tortillion away. She said not to...I think the word was, "smudge." I was blending just fine....she says that I'm not allowed to blend with anything but the pencil. I have to blend with the strokes!....yes, she must be insane....Ap art sucks....

lol I hear stories like these all the time. I don't understand how artteachers could say such things. Blending and smudging images with tortillions and tissues was my greatest discovery of this century, lol.
You should do the things you want to do don't let your art teacher get you

Nice work! Very handy.
And also, you can use sandpaper to trim down tortillions so you can use them till they're all gone.
Thanks for sharing!

Great tutorial, I like how you tacked the issue of blending. (I had an art teacher that refered to it as a sin.) Although you did mention toritillions, you did not mention paper stumps. (Or you included them in the group of tortillions.) I've always been of the understanding that tortillions were of the rolled up variety, and paper stumps looked a like one solid mass, with two pointed ends. They also come in a lot bigger sizes than tortillions. But this is just my experience with these tools, you may disagree.
Overall, I really like your tutorial. I was easy to understand and well explained. It helped me further my knowledge of pencil shading.

Wow, this is absolutely fantastic! I had no idea about the sandpapering tortillions deal, I'll have to try that! And I had never thought to use tissue paper as a shading tool either, although I think I definitely will use it on my next picture.

Wonderful tut!
And about the Tortillions, if you get a piece of fine sandpaper, and rub the sticks on the sand paper, it will take some, if not all of the dark, used paper off.
