Description //warning, Chi rant 8'D

HOLY SHIT. LOOK. IT'S AN OPINION. AND A RELIGIOUS ONE AT THAT. ABANDON ALL LOGIC!11!!!1

Okay, so on a more serious note:
Due to the fact that I've seen so many anti-prayer stamps, I've decided to make this one for those who are for it.

I do believe prayer works, because it's worked for me and I've seen it work for others. Through my experiences, I have come to the conclusion that praying /can work/. And before people go batshit, please understand that I happen to have an opinion /just like you/! No way! Does my differing opinion from yours make me a dumbass? Hmmm, I guess that would depend on how strong your feelings are for those who see things differently from you c:

On a more detailed note since I realize people are going to want to stray from the specific topic of this stamp (the opinion that prayer works)-- I'll leave these bullets here:
I pray, but I also do take action if it is within my abilities. I am in no way saying we should just pray and take no other action.
Contrary to apparent popular belief, there /are/ a lot of people that, while they don't believe in prayer, actually appreciate the thought that someone cares enough to do something that they believe may help.
I have been general on purpose in specifying what prayer to whom I am referring to. While I am a Christian and pray to God who I believe in, this stamp can also apply to - and is not restricted from - those who pray to something/someone else.
I am not bashing those who don't believe prayer works. Honestly, what a silly thing to bash someone for!

Lastly, if you're going to comment, please be mature or leave something funny.
And for goodness' sake, don't be an ass and attack people who are commenting on here. That's just plain rude. And if you want a definition of "attack", sucks for you. Find a dictionary. Or common sense. Either - or both! - are a good idea.

TL;DR - Read it, ya lazy derp :V

Might seem kinda silly, but one time my parents were re-doing the floor upstairs and somehow the cat managed to get stuck. We couldn't get him out for a while I don't know how he got stuck for so long, maybe he was lost under there, but anyway we tried everything to get him out and we failed. It was very sad, and that is one of my worst fears not being able to help someone that is so close to you(both physically and emotionally). He was stuck there for about a day and I remember we were saying grace, as soon as my brother said "please help the cat" there he right in the kitchen.

We were so happy that we all rushed over to him, it was a great day.

I prayed for my mother to get help for her depression. And prayed at the night she disappeared. The police found her, she had killed herself.

Haven't prayed after that.

I prayed for my pastor who was suffering from really bad depression and taking not-so-good drugs for it. a few weeks later he killed himself. For some time I thought that I would never be able to pray again, that God had abandoned me or made a mistake, but then I remembered that I live in a sinful world, and the affects of sin and the curse can affect even the people we love the most, and who we think are the most wonderful and good - I can't wait to get to heaven and see my pastor again. I pray all the time, and I'd probably have killed myself by now if I didn't. I encourage you to try again - just talk to God, tell him you don't understand, tell him your sad, tell him that you don't feel like praying. If you don't mind, I"ll pray for you.

If prayer only works occasionally, I would simply call it a coincidence. Sometimes things work out well, sometimes they don't, that's how life has always been, before Christianity and that's how it's going to be even after it. I realised that you just have to live with that. But maybe you can believe in people, that sometimes they can do good.

I think it's important to be realistic about these things. If prayer works for some person's small difficulty, but not for another's great distress I think it's reasonable not to trust on prayer. It's reasonable to think it's a coincidence. I think people should take more actions to help each other, rather than just hope things would get better.

GoodOldBaz In reply to tsupe [2013-05-05 20:03:04 +0000 UTC]

God is not a machine for us to order to obey us, if we ask something, that does not mean that he will answer the way we want - and like I said, the world is cursed because of sin so things will always go wrong no matter what.

I do agree with you that people should take more action than they do instead of just sitting around and hoping things will happen, that is for sure!

tsupe In reply to GoodOldBaz [2013-05-07 16:04:07 +0000 UTC]

Kinda like a little kid crying for his parent to help in a distress, but they only help if they feel like to? Then it's because the parent either isn't powerful enough to help, or even worse, doesn't want to, because they are malicious.

I don't agree with your view and I'm sticking to my point that if a prayer only works occassionally, it's most likely so because it's a coincidence. Good things happen, bad things happen. It's not rational to trust on something, that "might happen, if we're lucky enough".

Well, if your going to stick to your view, and I'm going to stick to mine, and we both think each other wrong, we might as well stop now.

Hope you have a wonderful, blessed day.

I hope that was just an out of habit for you to bless and not another Christian passive-aggressive way to provoke a person who just said they don't really care about praying. I just see a lot Christians do that. But if it was just out of habit then okay. Not that I really mind myself, I just think it's childish to peeve people intentionally like that.

Go in peace.

I agree so much. x.x While I don't pray much myself...

Sometimes there is nothing more you can do outside of praying that something good happens. There isn't a physical response for everything and sometimes having your heart in the right place is enough.

I am praying and believing in God that He will heal my friend of Epilepsy. The holy spirit told me to pray, and that I will do! In heaven, he will be healed anyway (so it IS garenteed that he will be healed) but I want to see God work more here on earth. I can do anything he wants, so I'm leaving space for my God to show of! I hope my prayer is answered. Can you guys pray for him? His name is Damon.

To quote the late George Carlin on this ...

"I noticed that of all the prayers I used to offer to god, and all the prayers that I now offer to Joe Pesci, are being answer at about the same 50% rate. Half the time I get what I want. Half the time I don't. Same as god 50/50. Same as the four leaf clover, the horse shoe, the rabbit's foot, and the wishing well. Same as the mojo man. Same as the voodoo lady who tells your fortune by squeezing the goat's testicles. It's all the same; 50/50. So just pick your superstitions, sit back, make a wish and enjoy yourself."

Mhm, Probably.
I was raised catholic and used to pray when I was little. Never did work for me.
Just one of the reasons I ultimately decided to think for myself and reject the christian faith altogether.
But I guess, whatever floats your boat ...

And yeah, it's interesting alright. The man had insights. Shame he's dead.

Prayer never really worked for me until I realized that I should stop praying to be in the front of every line lmao. I've had quite a few close calls where my prayers were answered though, so my faith in the existence of God is still quite strong ultimately :U

Well, it wasn't so much that those prayers were selfish or anything. I never was that kind of guy. I've always been ... dunno. Kindhearted. Maybe even naive. As a kid, you show that openly, you invite bullies. Well, prayer was one thing that didn't work against those ... pretending to be more like them was, but that's another story and actually something I'd love to just forget.
Point is, it never did help me.
That, coupled with the fact that when I grew older, I became very interested in all kinds of mythology, which also lead me to read the bible a couple of times. Once I really read it and looked at it with reason, actually thought about it, I found that it contradicts itself on so many levels and in so many cases that it just can't be all true. If it's not all true, it's probably not true at all, except for some historical relations from the time the different books were written. That realization in turn got me to question the possibility that a being such as a god could even exist. All on my own, mind you.
Today I'm a scientist. Today I'm as reasonably sure as possible that there is no god, can be no god. About as reasonably sure as I am about the existence of gravity (which is not 100% clear, by the way, but then no scientific theory ever is ... ^^).

Bah, look at me, rambling again ... once I start, it's hard to stop ... ^^

True. But in the end, we'll all die one day, smart and stupid. The question is if our life up until then has been worth it, in my opinion. In his case ... guess it was ^^

Thanks for this stamp, and yes, I believe that praying works
I know it for personal experience Some years ago, I was pretty sick and having lots of anxiety attacks: one night, after a talk with my mother (who also is a religious person) after she told me to pray, I did that, and I begun to feel better Sure, it still took some time to completely recover, but I was really getting better

Well sure, that doesn't mean that praying magically resolves all the problems, I believe that we also have to take action, like you said

So yeah, thank you again! I'm happy to see I'm not the only one <3

Praying does work. The World Prayer Assembly in Indonesia was done in the open and in the raining season. For weeks, it'd been raining everyday. But when it was time for WPA, it wasn't raining; the sky was as clear as a summer day. Coincidence or not, I believe that was the result of the people's prayers. (And when a mass group of people pray, shocking as it is, not long after, the Indonesia's crime activities percentage dropped to its lowest point that's never before seen since sandwich was invented.)

I read and quote: "If you don't thank Him for every smile you have on your face, then you have no right to blame Him for every tear you shed."

I'm glad you made a stamp like this Thank you!

It helps people feel calm and secure, but things are going to happen whether or not you pray or not. I have equal amounts of successes and disappointments, whether I wish for it (I'm not religious) or not wish for it. I just don't like relying on something I can't see or prove.

Haha, love the "tl;dr" part. I've felt like posting the same thing before.

A lot of my friends and family pray, and it has worked for them many times. I'm more of the belief that if it a something is meant to be, it's meant to be, simply because there have been so many confusing events in my life that later played out to be a necessary catalyst for something good later on. I may be curious, but I won't question it, and just wait to see what happens in the future. After that, I will pray, but it is a thankful prayer that things have gone well once again. Although for some reason that's usually taken as "I think you shouldn't pray for things". Dunno why they'd think that. According to my philosophy, the prayers of another could very well be one of those "meant to be" items. Perhaps they're just being too defensive and jumping to conclusions. *shrug*

Also- have you heard that one thing in which people with mental disabilities have them as a punishment because they, although mainly siding with God, helped Lucifer flee from Heaven? I am one of those people, apparently.

But how could God love one of His children less than another? He loves the prostitute as much as the pope, the pagan as much as the priest, the atheist as much as the greatest saint! Why shouldn't He love you? He MADE you! Just as the potter with the clay, God looks upon His creation with fondness and love! He did DIE for you after all! why? Because He wants to be with you forever in Heaven! What greater love is there than that?!

And about that disability thing, that sounds like a rumor spread by people who clearly have no IDEA what God's love is like! People with disabilities are not being punished for a sin they didn't even commit! I don't know why bad things happen to good people, but I know that God is completely good and loves you and infinite amount that no one could ever understand

In the words of A.W. Tozer, "An infinite God can give all of himself to each of His children. He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others."

We all need God, we are all imperfect and broken, God is just waiting for you to open up your heart so that He may fill you up. The God that can hold the entire universe in the palm of His hand wants to be your friend, your savior, your father. There is no greater love.
