Description one of my biggest fears, is that i will never really be known, that there is nobody out there who truly understands what i'm about.

the concept at first was going to be about claustrophobia, but once it was done, i figured the image is a more accurate reflection of how i see myself in the world.

i told my friends today about this idea, and all but one told me i was weird, i don't think it's about being weird or not, photography to me is my way of expressing myself, through unusual, different ways. i see the world differently, i don't think it's fair that i should be labelled weird for that.

yes this is me, and yes... i did paper mache my head. and yes, it was terrifying.

texture is from lostandtaken.com

- DD!!!! I'm stunned, I have never had one of these! Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to view my work, it is greatly appreciated.

Wow. How did you paper mache your own head? How did you take pictures of it when you were done?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

chpsauce In reply to couhby [2011-03-12 23:47:47 +0000 UTC]

A lot of time and patience! I put a plastic bag over my head to protect my hair (Not a whole bag, otherwise i'd suffocate!) and then I covered everything in paper mache except for a small breathing hole for my nose, and a tiny slit for an eye. (both of which I photoshopped out). And as for taking the photograph, my camera was on a tripod and I used a remote control.

Sorry for the mini essay!

I actually appreciate the detailed explanation. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Your piece is very unique, especially because you did it without anyone's help. I can't imagine how uncomfortable that is to paper mache your face and then to take it all off when the project is over. Oww.

Did it hurt peeling all of that machΓ© off? Perhaps if it did it could be said that you have to go through a lot of pain and trouble to be understood by other people.

I think that's a truth in itself anyway hah!

You put so much thought and effort into your art, the fact that you were willing to paper mache your head proves this .

If you are weird then you are my favorite kind of weird. This is probably one of my favorite photographs I've seen on this site to date. I have made some paper mache masks to use in my photography, which I've posted up, but I'll be hard pressed to create something as thought-provoking as this. Excellent job!

Absolutely beautiful photo in a very melancholy way... simply stunning... (Definitely added. )

(I give you kudos - I imagine it would be absolutely horrifying to achieve what you have with this piece... what with all the paper mache on your face...) How utterly frightening!

... and don't let the "weird" label get you down. You're completely right when you say that you see the world differently - each and every one of us perceives the world differently. They may perceive you as weird, but I perceive you, judging by this work, as a truly creative and talented individual (and I see that I'm not the only one, after seeing what other Deviantartists have said).

this picture is excellent. I like the thought behind it and I think many people think this way. I do. I share the same fear of working and studying and aquiring so much knowledge and ending up an average citizen.

this is beautiful, the expression behind such a simple image with the proper lighting is tremendous! Everyone fears loosing themselves to some extent but you give that feeling of being 'lost to the masses'. Im sorry but if your friends cannot understand the volumes this photo speaks, well, they simply do not understand the world around them.

once again. beautiful image wonderful creativity.

I think artists are the most misunderstood people, but the things they create are the most beautiful of all. And this, is beautiful.
