Description Another batch of sketch covers. These have been a bit better to work on thanks to a paper stock that seems to handle marker and watercolor fairly well. The Cap piece took a good minute. That suit has so much crap going on.

Prismacolor marker and white watercolor paint on comic book.

You lay marker down as if you are painting with watercolors. Most artists you can see the transition in shading. Your stuff looks seamless. Beautiful stuff.

ChristopherStevens In reply to JETurner [2013-10-30 21:42:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. The watercolor I use is a really big part of the process. Probably about 40% of the detail and especially the texture is done with the paint.

Damn awesome work! It amazing what can be done with prisma markers. I'm guessing you use a smooth bristol? How thick of a stock do you use, if you don't mind me askin?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChristopherStevens In reply to Mardoza [2013-10-22 03:19:58 +0000 UTC]

I use vellum finish bristol these days. Holds the paint better. 300 series Strathmore. Thank you!

Thanks for the info I love your art. I'm a digital guy but, want to get back into more traditional work and prisma markers seem like something I'd love to dabble in. Do you have any quick tips off hand?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChristopherStevens In reply to Mardoza [2013-10-24 04:07:37 +0000 UTC]

Good luck to you. I personally find traditional mediums much more rewarding. Not much advice other than to stick with it and not let early disappointments dissuade you. Traditional mediums are tough, but awesome once they start to make sense to you.

Brilliant work! Really love the shapes you've used in Bat's capes in the last image... channeling a little Spawn-kinda-thing. And the details in the Cap drawing are wicked! So many neat textures and effects. The rendering on that shield is tight!

Thanks. Yeah, its a little different from my usual cape style, but it seemed to fit this figure. Cap was a pain heh.
