Description Have some art.
I hate picking titles sometimes.

The background and setting were inspired by some of the scenery I came across when I went geocaching a while back. There was a rather fast moving river, and some neat rocks with easily visible strata. I'm quite happy with how those trees turned out as well.

The color scheme was a lot of fun, too. I spent more time on this color scheme than several of the others that I've made lately.

I'll probably follow this up with some quicker speedpaints. Right now, it's like I have all sorts of ideas, and not enough time to draw them all adequately.

I may re-upload this in a minute if DA's viewer over-saturates my image, or if I find details that need to be fixed.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the color palette. I used the saturation and blue eye to draw attention to that part of the picture, then used some more cool and desaturated colors in the shadows, to the right.

Thank you.

I used Photoshop Elements. The canvas size was a bit more than twice the size of the downloadable version. I basically did everything really large, then scaled it down, so my mistakes shrunk too. I made the entire picture in black and white first, to get the lighting and contrast down, then added color later on.

I brightened it up a little over there. It doesn't really change the atmosphere, but now it may be easier to see the details in that area.

My monitor is rather bright, so sometimes I notice my art looks much too dark on other monitors. Thanks for pointing that out, so I could fix it.

My monitor increase the contrasts, so maybe it's because of it. On my own computer, it doesn't look that contrasted

Nah, DA over-saturates pictures on other computers, but it looks fine on mine C:
This kind of reminds me of your "Exchanging Tales" piece, only maybe the kid grew up and got a new friend?
Is that a dragon saddle? Haha neat design! I like the view of the situation from here, seems somewhat "hidden" or private between the two
The shifting colour scheme is stunning, It also works well on the dragon in a camaflougue way. the shading style on the rocks and river works real well too! I'm spotting the spotty scales again!

I'm glad to hear that the colors look good on your monitor. I just made a minor edit and brightened up the bottom right part of the picture a little bit.

Looking at it again, and comparing it to my other art, I am reminded more of my Forest Depths picture, I think. Mainly because I used a lot of the same design features on the dragon. Although, if this one comes first, that makes the Forest Depths one a bit sad, because the kid isn't there...

I think the saddle was probably inspired by How to Train Your Dragon. That was a fun movie. I liked the saddle Hiccup built, with the pedal and all.
Those spotty scales are rather fun to draw.

I really need to practice making more varied dragons and scenery, though. I've drawn similar dragons, similar situations... similar scenery... etc. It's sort of a boring picture, when I think about it. Perhaps I'll try drawing a few scenes from books, or going for more extreme perspectives coming up. I'll definitely make a few speedpaints. Sometimes pictures get frustrating when you work on them for too long.

I always want to jump right into your illustrations and live in them

The content of the scene is great, and I like your running theme of dragons and their human friends sharing quiet moments together.

My favorite parts are the texture on the wing, the linework on the rushing brook, and that nice deep shadow on the right side. Your humans have really improved, too!

For critique, I think the human's leg looks a little flat and could perhaps recede in space a bit more. Same with the dragon's head - I know he's turned, but with the way his whole body and horns are set it seems a tad stark to have his face in full profile.

You are, in fact, the Color Wizard in truth. XD Overall, another beautiful glimpse into your awesome world.

It's good to know that I'm living up to my user name.

I just uploaded a new version with a few minor edits. I made some slight changes to the lighting on the dragon and the human. It should look a bit better now. I added a few more shadows to the dragon's head, and a few highlights to the lighting on the human. Now, I think they both fit in with the scenery a bit better.

I always have fun with pictures like this, but I do tend to sue similar features... settings... situations... etc. I'm thinking of mixing things up by doing some more speedpaints coming up, and maybe illustrating some scenes from books. I have a bunch in mind that I think would look awesome. I think more variety in concept and subject matter will help me continue to grow and improve as an artist. I'm sure I'll draw scenes like this from time to time, though.
