Description Full View for a cinematic view of your local cosmos

OK, so when I read about a "deviantMAP contest" held by I instantly started coming up with creative and humerous ideas. Rather than limiting myself to a world-like map perhaps with different galleries taking up different landmasses, I figured deviantART is so grand, why not give it its own Solar System (Or "Lolar system" if that sounds more like dA ) and seeing how star-maps and the like were allowed, this should still be within the guidelines

Lets get to it shall we?...
The planets of deviantART

DeviantART Server: The very core of the entire system of which would not exist without it, Server lies in a local cluster of stars ranging from smaller stars like CGSociety or Renderosity, to massive Supergiants such as Myspace and Youtube. In relation to these other servers, deviantART server is rather aged but still bright. The perfect sized star!
Female Nudes: Lying closest to Server, due to it apparently being the "hottest" of the galleries and the first thing many people look for on arrival, if this gallery was any bigger, it would have formed into a gas giant like the other, bigger ones!
Male Nudes: Significantly smaller than its feminine gallery counterpart, this gallery is still hot in the eyes of the few that appreciate it, let alone the fewer again that submit into it. Its Mars-like look is well fitting to it's masculine theme!
General Photography: Sunsets, water-drops, flowers, rings casting heart-shaped shadows - you name it! whatever you can think of that was taken through the lens of every camera, ranging from the cheap disposable ones to ones that can put a Ferrari to shame in a price war - all goes onto this giant gallery, you might still have to try and find some available space though.
Traditional Art: Apparently is where the whole art journey started, you can tell as it has a well-established and earth-like form too. Though small compared to most other galleries, never undermine the value of any form of hand-made art!
3D Art: Not very large, but worth a visit if your'e bold enough to sit in front of a 3D program! One can't help but wonder why so many of those naked Poser ladies havn't been shifted by Server to the innermost planet.
Stolen Google Images: Aaahhh! these stray lumps of crap are just about everywhere! and constantly pose a threat to all the other proper galleries on here. Destroy the stolen google images by reporting them!
Anime / Manga: Makes itself a rather dominant gallery that's almost impossible to miss every time you log in to stargaze at this site. But bigger isn't always better - but having said that, across its vast surface are some beauties that are worth all that searching, sill - don't say I didn't warn ya!
Fan-Art: Don't look so shocked, you KNEW It was going to be the biggest, in fact - fan-art grew so big so fast that it converted into glowing a brown dwarf gallery - smaller than a star, too big to be a normal planet, hence why it's the second most dominant object in the whole system right after the Server itself, you can't miss it even if you tried!
Other Digital Art: Was once colossal! but ever since Manga and Fan-art seperated and coalesced into their own galleries, Digital Art in general became less than half the size after shedding those unslightly tonnes, in spite of that, it still holds a wealth of different forms of art and safe to say it's still a damn big gallery!
Worthwhile Tutorials: There's lot of tutorials on here, but half often lead to a dead-end for most that use them here, this teeny-tiny portion of the deviant System has been bombarded with every member that hoped to become pro in an afternoon, so the poor gallery sports a multitude of big craters.
Dee Dee's: Because we are losing our ability to say "Daily Deviations" in this busy place. Dee Dee's is the final fronteir, you can't get a better honour on here than that, few make it to this small but bright gallery that shines proudly with the teal glint of deviantART!
Art Memes: Like comets, they strike fear into the hearts of some, but are amusing for others. Art memes come and go like Comets do, and people enjoy it while it lasts, but couldn't care less once its gone...

Phew, long comment, remember not to take this too seriously or literally, maybe the galleries should be different sizes relative to each other and I just got the wrong impression. Maybe I could have added more galleries too! But I considered all the variables an dthis way was just the right amount to keep it humerous so no crits please

No NASA imagery was used, some planets were made from painted texture-maps that were applied to 3D spheres, others including the Sun are done using fully procedural textures. Made using Vue and Photoshop.

Download is required to see text (but its explained in the comments anyway)

All artwork in my gallery is made by me and copyrighted too. Re-distributing my art edited or not is immoral and illegal! Respect the artist - don't steal art!

A fun concept.  I think I belong on the unseen planet not in your picture, though...the Plutos and Sednas of the Deviant system known as Literature.  Most would certainly argue we aren't real artists, so the comparison is apt.  There's several different kinds from the more common Poets to the less common Fiction.  Even more rare are the Prose Deviantoids.

Anyway, really a fun concept beautifully rendered into being.

I think the issue is that many people - including myself, came here for the more visual stuff since those who are looking for literature probably go elsewhere since they may fall under the impression that this site is just for visual mediums since that's dA's majority I must admit I don't read much around here due to lack of time

very cool, why did I never see that before? I wonder if the sizes still fit today.. perhaps by now the worthwhile tutorials have been degraded to a dwarf planet because of many similar sized objects linking to Patreon.

Chromattix In reply to ErikShoemaker [2016-04-07 09:34:33 +0000 UTC]

I'm surprised the demographic has changed as much as it has. I think the sizes would not really be as relevant today. And I agree - I despise how every artiost is moving their tutorials to Patreon. I hate Patreon in general - it's made artists charge people for stuff they used to give out for free. What sell-outs

Still, if I had something people were actually willing to pay for (often either tutorials or erotic fan-art) I'd probably try it too. But eh - it all eventually becomes available to the public anyway, like any pay-only form of digital media.

I find patreon annoying as well, mostly because every second artist posts stuff here only to advertise for their patreon. It must be very lucrative if so many people are doing it?
And I'm sure you could sell some tutorials, wallpapers and what over there as well. Or some 3D renders for others to use. It's what everyone does.

Chromattix In reply to ErikShoemaker [2016-04-12 07:02:51 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't mind artists advertising their patreon if they still did some stuff for their watchers without expecting them to pay up for it. Supporting an artist for so many years some of them - only to get shafted with being expected to pay for their idol's best works.

You really only have a chance there if you draw fan-art (especially sexual fan-art) or make tutorials. I don't think there's much in it for the average space/landscape artist

the silly descriptions of the deviant system made me laugh, but also made me think of unorthodox stuff like sentient solar systems, a living solar system could have all planets within it as computers that gather unfathomable amounts of data, transferring information to each other, and it's inhabitans may play a role in it, and the star as the supercomputer or the core, i would call it "Star System Brains".

Sounds interesting, but I'd have a hard time believing that an entire planet can be its own living thing (would be cool, but kinda creepy if they were )

Man, this is awesome! ^^ No other perfect way to summarize DeviantArt than to compare it to a solar system.

And speaking of which, after reading the part where you said DeviantArt is like a sun-like star that is just right, maybe you should create something similar comparing DeviantArt to the other sites on the internet in relation to the different types of stars on the spectral classification system. It would go something like this:

O-Type Stars (Blue Supergiants): Google
B-Type Stars (Blue Giants): YouTube
A-Type Stars (Blue-White Giants): Facebook
F-Type Stars (White Sub-Giants): Twitter
G-Type Stars (Sun-like Stars): DeviantArt
K-Type Stars (Orange Sub-Dwarfs): Tumblr
M-Type Stars (Red Dwarfs): 4chan
Brown Dwarfs: Other small miscellaneous sites

That's an interesting concept. And pretty realistic match-up of site-to-star types too. It may be in my thoughts, but I'm definitely too busy for it anytime soon
