Description
My first Avatar-inspired deviation!I could have gone for a ground view showing one of the many epic landscapes. But that can always be done later. I don't see much of the space scene seen very early on in the film, so that combined with the fact I promised many people my next 360 "Vue It" work was going to be a space one just meant it was the right theme to choose. It was at least lighter in polygon count than my first two that were very "tree-heavy" bumping their polygon counts into the several millions which resulted in countless crashes. Still had a fair amount with this but comparatively not as bad so bouts of swearing while making this was minimal
As for technical aspects, this was testing a version of Vue that can't actually render planets to its limits, that along with clever use of postwork allowed me to simulate a pretty authentic looking world below the viewer anyway. Rendering would have taken eons for me and so I got help, so I'll jump to credits for help before continuing:
Anyway, this required constant hopping between Vue 7 and Photoshop as some areas needed to be painted on and then brought back into the 3D world again to be rendered with the right amount of distortion and then composed in Photoshop again etc. I won't ramble on, Ill just say it was as hard to do as it looks, so just enjoy it!
Vue it - Pine Shrine
Vue it - Christmas Village
Vue It - Holiday House
Vue It - Haunted Harvest

Lol, not two Earths here, all planets are different, only the one below has life on it, it's meant to be Pandora from Avatar
People want different things when it comes to exposure, some hate it, some love lots of it. I'm happy with what I get which is enough but not so much that I get too much messages a day

This is amazing, are all those clouds straight out of Vue? They look so good, I didn't think it was up to that level!

Chromattix In reply to kev [2011-06-15 14:31:44 +0000 UTC]
I'm afraid to say the best parts of the clouds were painted in by me. I did use a lot of spectral clouds in there to begin with but when I saw them in the full-sized render (after several days!) I realized to my dismay that they were very soapy-looking So yeah, Vue can't do such cool clouds alone...yet

This is one of the most incredible renders I've seen in a long time! The level of realism/detail is amazing. I especially like the dynamic looking clouds on the planet and the interactive nature of the piece makes you feel like you're floating out there above Pandora.
Inspirational work!

Thanks a lot A lot of the cloud formations most interesting areas were painted in after the render, since even Vue can't do such cool weather phenomenon just yet
It was pretty hard painting on the image while still considering the necessary distortion of the render though to be able to map properly in this

...........how? How did you make this? How did you make it interactive?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Chromattix In reply to TerranAbassador [2011-06-10 09:31:12 +0000 UTC]
The interactiveness was done in a neat little program called PanoQTVR, which can turn photo's into the same. But a full-round view can only be properly achieved with a certain image type and level of distortion that may or may not be renderable in certain 3D programs (fortunately Vue can )

Wow, it's been a while since I have viewed your art, like I would always say, this is a amazing masterpiece that you made. Fun and Interactive like always, it makes the viewers seem like they're literally exploring on space. I like how you drew every little detail on the Earth and satellite, and you didn't leave out any details(I would probably leave out some if I were you! XD) You sure are perfect to be a professional game maker/designer! ^^
Keep up the awesome work!

I don't know about that - looks good to me Besides I couldn't sell it, that would be a copyright infringement, though I could offer it for free on my website
which would be a great traffic getter

Definitely, back when I was considering making and selling Vue stuff on Cornucopia I already was thinking just as much about free stuff as I wa spaid stuff, as they are bound to get lots of extra attention (provided its decent free stuff, since most that are are usually poorly-made, even my free stuff would need to be as good as something that most others would charge for )

2753Productions In reply to Chromattix [2011-06-14 01:29:08 +0000 UTC]
Agreed. I have a page dedicated to "free" stuff on my website, even my simple, slightly more realistic Vue reeds I offer on there get downloaded and searched a LOT! Offer something for free, then that gets the traffic in, then convert them to a sale once they are there

Holy cow! If only I could do something like this. I haven't tried planetary terrains yet, even if I have Vue 9, and my first try was a complete disaster D: I'm honoured that you commented on my work but it's absolutely nothing like THIS! Inspirational. Phenomenal.

Chromattix In reply to inventionary [2011-06-05 10:45:17 +0000 UTC]
Thankyou! I've only had very brief experience with planetary renders when trialing a version of Vue 8, but for here I had to "fake" the look of a true Vue planet in Vue 7 using a combination of large-scale procedural materials on the ground-plane, and the clever use of mixing different renders together in Photoshop to give the shadowing away from the sun that otherwise could only be achieved on a true planet too It was incredibly difficult but it shows how I make the most out of the least when not willing to spend a whole lot of money on an upgrade
Thanks for the compliment

It sure is. Though 3d art can be frustrating at times, being so technical and crash-prone since it requires a lot of memory but its advantages and help keep me coming back

Thankyou! I thought the movie was very inspiring, it will probably remind you a lot of the stuff I do, from multiple moons in the sky to dense rainforests on the land
Yep, the blue one is a Gas planet, Pandora (the main world below) is actually one of the gas giant's moons

If that new computer has anything better than 4GB's of RAM - then I'm jealous Most of my Vue crashes and incredibly long render times is because I'm constantly running out of memory. Oh the shortcuts I have to do in Vue to save on polygons and volumetric effects
Thank God I know how to postwork them alright again

Chromattix In reply to vile72 [2011-05-29 05:10:26 +0000 UTC]
Vue is the most crash-prone program in EXISTENCE I'm afraid to say - But ignoring that fatal flaw which makes it as balanced and stable as a man riding a unicycle on a tightrope, it's otherwise a very powerful and fantastic program But I would suggest you buy the BEST computer you can (or can't) afford if you want any hope of being able to use it comfortably. I'm running on 4GB of RAM but that's only just barely enough to even use it - it often goes into degraded mode, displaying everything as boxes making it near impossible for me to see what I'm putting where
The fact they say 1GB of RAM is enough on their system requirements list is laughable
That's enough to run Photoshop, but not nearly enough to keep the memory-hungry beast Vue happy
