I personally don't mind doing lines, but I do sometimes get tired of the dark, outlined look they give -- Thanks for this tutorial!! I'll definitely give it a try sometime!!

Wow, great work! But what is the resolution and size of the canvas you work on?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chuwenjie In reply to ElithianFox [2012-03-24 23:28:23 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! <3
I use 600 dpi to start with. For this picture, I think the canvas size was something like 5.6 by 8.7 inches.

Wow, the file must be huge then

chuwenjie In reply to ElithianFox [2012-03-24 23:54:41 +0000 UTC]
It is pretty big.
I shrink the end result to about 100 dpi though, so in the end it's not so bad.

So wait, with this fringe effect, wouldn't each brush stroke have an edge? Or only the outermost edge of that particular color on that layer would have an edge? Do you just throw down a giant blob on normal and then draw the border shape around it using fringe?

chuwenjie In reply to Kraedi [2012-03-24 23:27:13 +0000 UTC]
Only the outermost area of everything you apply on the layer has an edge.

;v; Thank you so much, I hate lineart with a burning passion
But I do have one question. Whenever I try using fringe, the edge of my stroke is just a slightly darker shade of the color I'm using. Is there any way to make the edge of my stroke a darker color? Thanks again~
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
chuwenjie In reply to shaheeda [2012-03-24 23:25:47 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... I don't think there is, unfortunately. D:
Making the fringe wider might help to make it more noticeable. However, if you do stroke in Photoshop, you can control what color you want it to be. Hope that helps somewhat~

Whoa whoa whoa!~ I've heard about the fringe effect but never really used it, and this method seems way easier than making all the lineart, drawing inside, erasing the areas that sticks out and stuff... Thanks alot.~
