Description
oil on canvas, 14"X10"Always intrigued by so many I know who lead a linear life - education, marriage/relationship, job, kids, minor ailments...and cosmetic social conscience!
looked another way, same theme as follows [again!], different presentation

Beautiful one too! For me it's like a wealthy but lonely middle-age woman walking a lonely road ahead into the unknown.

yup
it almost ties in with what I had in mind, except I didn't have her as particularly well-off woman, more middle-class perhaps.Just a feeling, not that anything in the painting says so.

Yeah with me too. It was just a feeling I got from seeing her.

do you think a straigh line leads to nowhere? lately i started to think that life isn't a line, but moves in circles...
you say something about those who live a linear life... i don't understand how do they stand it... don't they need changes?
the world is too big for us to stand still and do the same thing everyday...
the painting... there's something really mesmerizing about that old woman and her red coat... i donΒ‘'t know if it's the ligthing, i don't know, but she looks so real, so like she's actually moving, walking along that straigh line, looking at it... perhaps thinking of what's gone and what's coming... like the end of a trail... that isn't really an end...
oh i don't know... i always mess everything up... there's some peaceful feeling in this painting... some stillness and some motion at the same time... like a sad sunday afternoon... sunbathed... yes... that's how this feels to me...

Very nice composition.
I love soft colors of trees, buildings and sky, and contrast between background and woman's red clothes.

I like the colour that you use on this one, well the perspective kinda odd on this one and the woman is kinda floating out of the ground, but I'm not sure if your trying to express something about it. But of course I'm one of your fan so its also a

I think this is a lovely painting. I love the woman walking and the choice of the red coat is outstanding, really draws the eye. I don't see an imitation at all, a purely lovely totally unique painting all of your own! Has a lonely feel to it also, which I really like, or maybe a longing of the woman to have taken other paths in her life. HEH, I am getting silly now

I don't see anything wrong with your perspective..I think it looks as it should. This painting shows depth nicely, and you figure..as always..perfect.....The red really draws your eye to her. Looks great..but lonely.

I have always thought your perspective was fine. I just get back and envision the scene you are depicting..and if there was something wrong..it would leap right of the page at me. It's all good.

its a really wonderful piece. though just a thought...theres somwthing awry about the left shelter, the rail and the woman....they seem to be at wrong angles when seen in full..!!
anyhow, i loved the concept....and most of all the title..!!

fantastic! Sorry...not much to say about it. I do find it interesting that YOU find the theme interesting. I suppose artists tell of themselves too, in their work...meaning to or not.
I suppose we all lead life on that linear way to some degree...though I dont really connect well with ...for example, my neighbors...living their routines...nor do they connect well with me. I am alien to their experience...and they for them exploring would pose too much of a risk, to what they know as "normal" and "good" and "safe"
I guess I DID have more to say about it. Now this idea, has me interested...or "intrigued". THAT makes a painting a success without a doubt. To convey and idea and create interest in the viewer, about the topic.

The people I know seem to get some security in the routine of such a life, some that are resigned and angry because they are missing out on life, others that are okay but still feel like something is missing. It is hard to break out of the 'mold' isn't it? ...and then there is the monetary system that traps you
π: 0 β©: 1
ckp In reply to bluequantum [2005-08-30 08:08:46 +0000 UTC]
Actually, the painting can be summed in your signature!!!!!!!!
yes, what I find puzzling is - those who feel something is missing - still do not/can not do much about it. Most of my work is with that section as an audience in mind, really. Not the ones who find security, nor the ones who are resigned and just foment.
Thanks for a perceptive comment, Dot.

I like how it feels as if there is a fork "in the road", Which represents to me a choice. The sidewalk slanting one direction and the train tracks going the other. Almost to me, saying there is another way...but with the lights of warning it feels unsafe or uncomfortable to explore. I like this

This is the one I prefer of the 6 works. I really like the feeling: it looks as if there was something in the air, a mix of contemplation and waiting for something. Maybe some longing too.
I really like the concept too. Sometimes I wonder if a linear life really exists or if it's only an apparent linear life, that looks like perfect happiness from the outside, but maybe it isn't so perfect for those who live it.

ckp In reply to rej- [2005-08-30 08:18:15 +0000 UTC]
oh, thank you very much indeed for looking the rest up too.
I am glad that you do sense 'something' in the atmosphere. Wanted that to come about but wasn't sure, so , really pleased if it has come across so.
Then, of course, what you say is true - those lives may appear to be linear to me.What I am really stating is - I understand there must be ups and downs in every life. But the range - the amplitude - remain within the personal sphere. The misery does not extend to social misery. It does not encompass or include the 'other', non-linear lives. That puzzles me.
Your comment is very very valuable to me. You touch almost all the aspects I had in mind while doing the painting.
Thank you so much, again.

I understand what you mean. As I always do, I first had a point of view focused on the singular cases more than on the social one. But this is another thing that I like about this painting: it can refer to social issues and to personal experiences at the same time

Fine colours. But I think there is some inaccuracy in perspective. The perspective is different in the rails than in the platform the lady walks along.
