It has been my opinion for quite some time that Lightning was designed to basically just be a female version of Cloud anyway. Their design is very similar, and their personalities are practically clones of each other. Hell, they both belonged to an elite military branch called "Soldier". 13's lack of originality kinda got on my nerves lol.
