Adrian, a man in his early thirties with short brown hair and brown eyes, entered the local antique shop. It had been in his neighborhood for years. Many times he passed it without giving it a second thought. This time, however, he decided to enter just to see what was there. The only other person there at the time was an old woman at an old cash register that was still in use.

"Can I help you?" asked the old woman.

"Just looking," Adrian replied.

"Let me know if you need anything," the old woman said with a smile.

Searching through the various items, Adrian found an old teddy bear in the back of the shop. It was brown with black eyes and had a green bow around its neck. It was made in the 1920s. Adrian did not know how he knew that fact but he did.

Right next to it was a color photo of a little girl holding the teddy bear. She had blond hair and blue eyes, wore a light blue blouse and yellow dress, and had a large pink bow in her hair. The bear looked brand new. Adrian had many questions about the little girl and her teddy bear but he knew even the old lady who ran the shop would not have the answers.

Adrian picked up the bear and stared into its old black eyes. He thought he saw his reflection. The reflection he thought he saw started to change. He started to change! He looked at his arms which were smaller, thinner, and hairless, and froze with fear.

His hair turned blond and grew down to just above his neck. This caused him to blink and when he did his eyes turned blue. He decreased in size until he was the size of a ten year old girl. His clothing changed into a light blue blouse and yellow dress, just like the girl in the photo. Then a large pink bow appeared in his hair.

The changes were not yet done. The rest of his body changed too. Most of his body hair disappeared leaving only the amount found on a child. His male body parts disappeared and were replaced by female ones. It did not take long for him, or her, to realize she had become the girl in the photo.

Still frozen with fear Adrian, or April, received the memories of the little girl living in the 1920s. She had just received the teddy bear as a present and was determined to take good care of it. The bear looked brand new, just like it did in the photo.

However it was not the 1920s. It was the 2020s and April found herself in the antique shop. She did not question it. She simply picked up the bear and headed over to the old woman at the cash register.

"I would like to buy this," April explained, holding up the teddy bear.

"Consider it a gift!" insisted the old woman.

"Thank you," said April, taking the bear and walking out of the shop.

April was not worried. She knew where her family lived and it was within walking distance. If anyone asked about her strange outfit she would explain it was a costume. She could not wait to get home. She felt like she had missed an entire century and had a lot of catching up to do.
