Description My tutorials will be moving from my site and coming to live here on Deviantart. Here's the first one to make the journey. The sample art on it is old, but the information is still sound.

Just a quick question, I keep seeing the advice to set layers to "Multiply" everywhere...but no one explains what exactly that DOES.

"Multiply" basically makes everything on the layer transparent. It makes anything white become "clear" but the black still stays dark. Which is what makes it good for coloring, because you don't have to worry about deleting the white to see just the lines. Though, really, the best way to understand what setting a layer to "multiply" does is to set a layer to multiply and see what happens. Your observations from playing around with different layer settings will be much better for understanding than any descriptions I can give.

I have messed around with it before but couldn't see that it did anything. Now that I know what to look for perhaps I'll have better results.

Thanks!

There needs to be something on a layer underneath the one you set to "multiply" to see any effects.
