Done mostly during commercial breaks. I like her dress, and the couch and that lil pillow thingy. There's something about it that I don't like, but I can't seem to put my finger on it.

This is AMAZING. i love all your gallery, it's great. I was trying to see what MIGHT be wrong with your drawing, and i seriously think there's nothing wrong except (maybe im just imagining) her right shoulder is awkward????? no? but ignore me, you're way more talented than i am. good job!

Spiffy! I really like it. Particularly all the folds in the cloth and the pattern on the brocade. I love details like that, for some reason. They make me happy. It does look like it was done on typing paper (the texture), but considering that I think it looks quite nice! Me likey.

Oh, and pillow thingy = bolster.

I love the attention to detail here. Every aspect of it is a dleight to explore with the eyes. The only thing that might be "bothersome" is the lack of a background of some kind. Thats not really an issue, and the piece looks great without it, but perhaps it would add a bit more to have something simple in the background to add some depth. Still excellent work either way!

I like it, but I gotta be honest. Her left arm looks a little flat. I don't find enough definition there to suggest the form in space. And it might be the angle of her collar bone, but her right arm seems to be coming our of her torso in a weird configuration. But when you draw from photos you gotta take what it give you. That's just an odd pose given her overall gesture and not anything you did wrong.

You did a marvelous job on the fabric. The highlights and midtones are well placed and there's a real depth to it. I can "feel" the texture of the folds really well here.

Hmm, i see what you mean. It seems that the area beyond her elbow and forearm should be darker to suggest that depth, dunno why I didn't notice it. I should've focused on her a little more. Thanks for the suggestions.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

control In reply to eternal-dreams [2005-11-25 21:51:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, i guess it would depend on which shading you're referring to. Actually used two different techniques on this one but its pretty simple. On everything but the skin I used the absolute tip of the pencil, sharpening it often to get the finest grain on the paper, and on her skin I blended everything as much as I could to create a smooth look. Hope that helps.

And since I didn't get to see this one up close when it was on the wall, it's very good.

Very nice detail throughout, only part that seems unfinished is the hands/wrists area but its that way because it's not ment to be the focal point. Fantastic job on laying down the print pattern on the furniture as well as the dimensions of the woodcarving at the very top of the back of the chaise lounge.

beautifully rendered. I would suggest adding shadow to the forshortening effects of the lower arm to hint depth and on the lower arm (her left) the fingers need to be a bit longer, so if it were me I would draw the space between the fingers down a bit more.

technically it's fantastic

but to me, it seems more of a sculpture than an actual person, as in..realistic in terms of a sculpture. mostly because of the facial expression and the hair. i think mroe detail and shading of the hair could make it look more 'lively'. i guess there is also some thing about her eyes that seems to resemble the white marble sculptures..a bit in lack of expressions .

overall, an eyecatching piece

You're mad to draw a dress like that! On the other hand, you've drawn far more complex pieces of clothing as well..

Looks to me thou as if you've spent the majority of your time on the furniture and her dress thou, that's why Gwyneth herself lacks a bit of "finesse".. But I know what you're gonna say, there's "just skin". And yea, that's true alright. Still feels like the extras seem to be more important here than the actual subject.

Damn, now I sound too negative (the downside of trying to provide critique)! So I'll just add it's yet another great piece you made

Actually, you're right I didn't even want to mention who the person was, but I couldn't think of a title. I'm surprised she's recognizable since I spent most of the time just smoothening it out, but yeah, spent most of my time somewhere else. Keep the critiques coming.
