Description
Look at this! Some more notes! And I attempted to draw some deer. The fallow deer was referenced off of google 8U;So yeah, have some peryton!
-Peryton can be found (obscurely) in medieval regular world mythology as well as an extremely derpy D&D version . In both of the IRL versions they don't have any breed variation, the shadows they cast are of a man (even though they have a deer or a bird body, I know), and their colorations are straight blue-and-green.
-Obviously what you see above is my own world-specific interpretation. They have normal shadows and I think they're much more feasible designwise.
I freaking love deer. 8U; They are such elegant creatures. Must draw moar.

._. A Peryton used to appear to me in my dreams when I was little. I had no idea that it had a name until a few days ago, when I drew down the concept of it and someone told me that it looked like a Peryton. I'm freaking out. Like, really. I'm getting chills looking at pictures of it.

I love the little smile on the fallow deer. These look great, deer are so strange and pretty and these are just terrifying. In a good way. Love those wings and mega bird feet.

Very nice! I never knew about this critter, so it's really cool to see your interpretation of such an obscure beastie. I love the idea of a marking to give the illusion of a smaller mouth.

. . . and now you have me imagining a dikdik peryton. Technically they're antelope, but . . . POCKET SIZED. FOR TRAVELING CONVENIENCE. (All the malevolence your pocket can hold!) These are v. cool, but you already know that! And that eye, man. V. accurately creepy!

Especially with the itty-bitty horns. <3 And then the lip markings make me want to see a peryton with its avian parts from a nightjar or frogmouth. . .
I know! XD That's . . . exactly how they are, but they're so alien-looking. Ungulate eyes are awesome for the unexpected creepy factor.

Well, this species in particular is based on a somewhat obscure creature already in real world mythology. I just looked up a couple of deer references and away I went!

You own the Peryton name or its already invented? Sorry I did understand the "Peryton can be found in regular world mythology as well as an extremely derpy D&D version. "

Corvarrow In reply to PhoenixSAlover [2012-05-06 19:07:17 +0000 UTC]
Nah, it's an obscure mythical creature from IRL medieval times that I redesigned for my own world. XD I just used the same name and the same basic idea of "carnivorous birddeer".

YES. I lav Peryton. 8D Thank you! They seem like they're pretty obscure! I'm really surprised there's even the D&D entry on wikipedia now because it certainly wasn't there the last time I drew one of these. They're so awkward. e_e

They are incredibly obscure, hahah.
Though I certainly was much more familiar with the classical mythology before I knew they were in D&D, since I care little for D&D.

I don't play D&D, but when I was in high school I got a copy of some edition of the AD&D Monster Manual just to look at the pictures and read creature information. I have read the whole thing through at least half a dozen times. I have so many mythological monster books hahahaha 8U;
