Congratulations on your hard work!

Must have been a heck of a walk, that's some dedication right there.

It makes for a great behind-the-scenes look. Seeing where they kept close to reality and where they used artistic license is very instructive!

alright im lost

when i go to the place you have rika's house at, i find the furude shrine and the place you have the furude shrine at is some other place called the myozenji temple

the small map at the bottom corner is more accurate but the big one is kinda screwed up it looks like

Okay, that may have just been some translation glitch. I didn't make the map; I found it when we were translating Higurashi into English. I've just followed the markings.

You don't see Rika's house much in the series, but yeah...

what do you mean you were translating it into english?

and which series are you talking about? her house appears all the time in kai.
you went to Shirakawa-go right?

Codln't tell you. I was walking off the map. I think it's that they used two different photos for Rena's house

Thanks for this, it is very useful, since I was thinking of making a Hinamizawa TF2 map. Well, making it once I get better at map making on Source.

As they used to say on Something Awful; don't let a lack of talent stop you from making maps.

And remember that improvement only comes with effort.

Looks like a quiet unassuming village is getting lots of extra atention because of Higurashi. XD

Great pics. I only have the demo + patch for the visual novel, but I can certainly recognise some of the other places from the anime.

The map says "Rena's house A" and "Rena's house B"! She has two houses!? XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cplcrud In reply to amysteriousgal [2009-08-29 01:30:00 +0000 UTC]

The images shown for Rena's house changed somewhere around Tsumihoboroshi-hen iirc.

The buildings themselves look very similar to each other, so unless you're standing in front of them you can't really tell which is which.

amysteriousgal In reply to cplcrud [2009-09-03 10:45:34 +0000 UTC]

That would explain it.

Yeah, they look pretty similar. ^^ I wonder why they switched houses.

I really wanna go here! is it near kyoto? (will search on google....if i can find it) I've always wanted to visit a rural japanese village

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cplcrud In reply to tinycakie [2009-06-04 11:38:27 +0000 UTC]

From Kyoto you're looking at about 4 hours travel.

Kyoto -> Nagoya (Shinkansen)
Nagoya -> Takayama (JR)
Takayama -> Shirakawa (Road; hire car or Bus)

tinycakie In reply to cplcrud [2009-06-04 22:20:07 +0000 UTC]

damn...shinkansen's are expensive......if only I can brainwash my aunt into going.....

Frikkin sweet, I'm curious, is there a phone booth anywhere like in Onikakushi-hen?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cplcrud In reply to McWeetbix [2009-06-03 11:33:19 +0000 UTC]

Actually, no.

For the filming of the live-action movie they had to bring in a phone booth.

From memory there are a couple of phones near the service station but they are the new type.

It's near Takayama. I suggest hiring a car. The woman at the desk was able to give us pretty good directions...

Skullchukka In reply to cplcrud [2009-05-23 13:53:21 +0000 UTC]

I was hoping to go there with a tour, but then again it would limit the stuff I can see, I think..?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cplcrud In reply to Skullchukka [2009-05-24 09:14:58 +0000 UTC]

If you go with a tour you'll go ot the hill, see the main houses, and then leave again.

If you go on your own you can stay in one of the Gassho huts and go to the local bath house.

If you go there, make sure yo go to that bath house. It is freaking awesome.
