Description
It was a Decepticon project during the war; the benefits outweighed the moral conflicts.
However, the strong attachment between the subjects caused them to halt the project. A Decepticon must be willing to sacrifice everything for the cause, none were willing to sacrifice they’re partners.
They terminated the subjects, stored all evidence in the base, which they buried in a landslide and pulled out every possible stop to hide the documented evidence.
However, the Autobots still found out about the Targetmaster project. And they couldn't help but explore the possibility themselves.
Now they just needed a larger Autobot to wield the first.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Rodimus just stood there, clearly confused. "Um. . . what"
Wheeljack sighed, ever since Perceptor had most of his emotions and personality programs erased, he often forgot to dumb his vocabulary down.
Before another speech of complex vocabulary started again, Wheeljack cut Perceptor off. "Basically, the idea is t' make a small Cybertronian whose altmode is a gun. They'll have a permanent symbiotic relationship with a standard sized one. The accuracy will be a good 99.75%, and the sheer power of a shot will outdo any Decepticon's built in weapons, and both partners will be able to lower that so they only stun. Not to mention that you now got a self aiming weapon when you're in vehicle mode."
Rodimus nodded, confused but understanding. "If it's such a good idea, why did the 'cons abandon it? And doesn't this cross some sort of moral line"
Perceptor spoke up first. "The project was nullified because symbiotic correlation caused both partners to become exceedingly protective of each other. The Decepticons didn't want soldiers risking their lives for another at that point in the war, when they were running low on troops."
Wheeljack mentally thanked the higher powers that Perceptor was understandable there before answering the Prime's other question. "As for morels, it depends. Introducing a 'bot to a symbiotic relationship might cause some a superiority complex, but we found a way around that."
Rodimus gave him a questioning look, "And that would be?"
Perceptor spoke up again, "Naturally, it would be preferable that the larger one had a temperament that would allow him or her to respect their smaller associate, if we were to bring in the connection to one of our soldiers."
"And you even show respect towards the waste disposal 'bots."
Rodimus looked surprised, "You. . .want me. . . to be the one to handle to first one?"
Wheeljack smiled, "Ultra Magnus said you and another would be the best choice, and you’re the marksmen." Surprisingly enough, his other choice was Optimus. . .
Rodimus looked at the protoform chamber where the first Targetmaster was, ready to be born at any moment, then at the dadtapad that said what he was to technically be to the new Autobot.
Mentor and partner, all it would take is a minor upgrade. They were right he would treat him as an equal. It didn't matter that all targeting and additional programs were connected to the little guy. He was still an Autobot. His stature wouldn't matter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Target practice had just ended, and Rodimus could feel his partner's excitement. It was their first time shooting, dead center nearly every time.
He gently tossed him in the air, the revolver transformed while flipping and landed on his shoulder, laughing happily. "98% the first time around! How's that!?"
"Better than Preceptor's prediction."
The black and grey revolvers chaises puffed out with pride, Rodimus could feel it in the back of his processor. "The 'cons won't know what hit 'em."
"Hard to miss being hit by a Firebolt."

I used to be a lot harsher with my critique of the fan-fic contest entries. But then, after writing a few myself, I discovered how challenging it was to pop out a decent story with just 600 words. It's tough! But it's also a great way to learn how to focus. Will you be entering the contests again?

I will enter them in a bit.
As for the challenge, at least it helps expand vocabulary!

It's true, some words can replace a whole sentence!
