Here's a little sample of an animation, that I have managed to work from the model I crafted awhile back.This is an older sample and not finalized properly, but you'll get the idea from this.

What programs are you using to model, rig, and animate these sequences?

I use 3DSMax for modelling rigging and animating, I also render out from Max as a png sequence with a MentalRay renderer. Then I'll use AfterEffects for final touches and composing. I re-sequence the finalized animation as another png strip for these smaller gifs, which I export out of Photoshop's animation tools. For the finalized animation itself I export directly from AfterEffects as a mp4 or mov.

When you say that you render out as png sequence does that mean that you are rendering out individual frames and then compiling them together in After Effects rather than Video Post in MAX?

That's the very thing what I mean. There's just so much more what you can do in AE than in the measly video post. Once I came accross the Andrew Cramer's Videocopilot site, I have not deviated from AE... and that was many years ago, lols!

Yeah.Β I've used After Effects a little bit.Β Like Photoshop it has a steep learning curve with nearly limitless options depending on the imagination of the artist.Β
I did this in After Effects last year using the same technique you spoke of.Β It's a dream sequence of a final project that I did for ANIM-150 class.

Your 2D gallery is full of forms, color and detail in a well fashioned quality way.
Don't shy away from that on 3D. Try and keep the same finesse throughout every form you do on both dimensions and let the 2D forms and shapes you already do so well, flow seamlessly into your 3D forms.

Speaking of sleepy, teasy, tickles... even tho, this particular scene was lost, I did manage to re-create it and add to it. Once I get it ready, there's going to be a comic strip about this very style of teasy tickles... (working with it as we speak) keep a look out!

This and so many more characters of the old toonips town were burried by a computer melt down, which thwarted my progress for quite some time. I'm still rebuilding the majority of the old characters as we speak
