Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl from Howl's Moving Castle...my newest obsession. I love all of Miyazaki's films but this is my newest favorite
anyways, i must have been suicidal when I started painting this and am sure glad to be done. not sure how many feathers there are here, but here's got to be several hundred :falls over:
a painted a few to start and then painstakingly coppied, pasted, rotated, skewed and tweaked each feather onto Howl. what a pain! so anyways enjoy everyone.
and if you haven't seen the movie yet, you should go check it out. for once, a love story that ends happily

One of my all time favorite anime movies, have yet to read the book though. And I have to say that this picture is one of the best I have seen of him in a very long time. Keep up the great work and perhaps you could make one of the cute couple!

I saw this awhile back, I was very disapointed with the subtitles because half the time they were hard to read when the screen was a light color.
This is a wonderful job here. The feathers look so real. and I think you captured him much better than the movie.

Have you read the book? Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynn Jones (Sp on that name @_@) i haven't seen the movie yet but it looks interesting. Myazaki though... Well i shall have to see it. Great picture! The wings rock.

I'm actually watching the movie right now, and when I saw the title on my 'watchlist', I sat there thinking and hoping 'please don't be a picture of howling wolves (though that would be pretty, but I wanted to see your style of Howl).

I picked this one up a couple of weeks ago along with Totoro.
So now I have all his films until the Earthsea based one comes out.

Really nice, I really adore Howl, 2 month ago I brought Howl's moving castle 2 dvd version for my Miyazaki collection. Unfortunatly in Italy we don't have other important title of the great Miyazaki like "My neighbor Totoro" or "Porco rosso" (that is set in italy), anyway I really like to collect others: Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's delivery service, Spirited away, Conan series, Laputa and Howl too.
Anyway I think this work is really beautiful, perhaps he has sharp-pointed face. But this is your style

yah, i tried to capture what he looked like from screens and in some he had a flatter chin than others, but I think he does have a pointy one. oh well, he was still no much fan to draw
the only thing I haven't seen is the Conan series, is it any good? and Porco rosso was my least favorite and I've never bought it. but you definnitly need to get your hands on My Neighbor Totoro. that is by far his most recognizable film and I think I've watched it like a million times, lol. it's really great!

I watched Totoro in Japanese funsubbed in italian... I've got in dvd version and I really adore it (Kanuka sing Tonari no Totoro every days, it makes me fun
I'm agree with you that Howl isn't simple to reproduce and you obtain a great result
Conan series was inspired to the romance of Alexander Key "The incredible tide". It's a post atomic anime where Conan is the protagonist. I saw it when I was a kid and after saw its repetitions... it's a famous cartoon in Italy. I think this is a mix between romanticism, amusement and hard reality of the post atomic life. But... how could any miyazaki's work being not a masterpiece?

Oh gracious, this is lovely!! The details on the feathers are just gorgeous - I can believe how long it took to do them! I love the folds on the shirt and jacket, too. Not to mention that you captured the bishonen aspect of Howl perfectly. Now, I must ask - what effect do you use to get the earrings to glow? I've tried to capture 'lighting effects' often in Photo-shop, and I never seem to be able to get them to work properly. I'm sure it's just a mixture of the brush tool and some editing, but it seems to be beyond me . . .
I just saw the movie a month ago, and I love it as well. I've also read the books it was based upon, and I can recommend them both as good additions for the die-hard Howl fan. (He's a bit more obnoxious on them, but no less loveable.)
