DeviantArt is constantly evaluating better ways to serve our community, from new features to smaller updates and bug fixes. Today, we're making a change to the format of profile URLs that will have a positive impact moving forward. In order to better serve you, we’re changing profile URLs from username.deviantart.com to deviantart.com/username

Don't worry, your old URLs will still work, and you can continue to use them. Your old links/URLs will always redirect to your new ones.

We know a lot of deviants are attached to their URLs, so the decision to make this change was not done lightly. Part of the decision-making process involved surveying active deviants, and we discovered the overall sentiment was fairly neutral. Most people did not strongly prefer one or the other — as long as old URLs redirected. But, most importantly, we believe this change will be beneficial for you.

Why Changing URLs Is for the Better
  • The new URLs will likely increase your traffic: Based on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts we’ve consulted with and also other sites that have made the switch, moving away from subdomains is likely to increase overall site traffic from search engines—this means more traffic to your Profiles and deviations.

  • Subdomains cause many technical challenges, inhibiting site improvement and performance. Browsers treat subdomains like different, individual sites for security reasons and, because of this, more and more website functionality is being limited to working with a single domain. Working around these restrictions makes building new features and maintaining old ones complicated, increasing the time it takes our engineers to complete projects. It also creates “buggy” circumstances while navigating the site. For example, you might have noticed that it sometimes shows the wrong artist’s name in the URL when using the “next” and “previous” buttons while browsing artwork in someone’s galleries — this is a technical limitation that is imposed by browsers for security reasons and was not possible to work around until now.

More Updates To Come! This is a small update ahead of some major improvements we'll be making to profile and other areas of the site. You'll be hearing more in the coming months!

    Hallo hübscher Junge!
    Du fragtest:

  • What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?
  • Which part of your profile are you most proud of?
  • Ok,fangen wir an mit 1:
    Profiles!?
I wanna have the option to delete profile and gallery comments in a little thrashcan.
I wanna have control in my own webpage.

    Next:
I wanna have urgently the option, clicking a grid in my journal.
Still understroke lines in a journal.

I wanna have on Eclipse still a blocklist with less 1000 people.

I wanna still disable the comments of my journals/Stash writer texts,if this still exists on Eclipse.

If Eclipse is awful as others say,so it should be for non-core members,
otherwise you get less opinions over it.

Its a stupid idea, letting test this only the rich.
If Eclipse really sucks,it means much more opinion in this!

I wanna finally write a note with understroke, bold or italic.

The same should stay in Journals or Stash writers.

I wanna have the option to hide the avatars.

Even,if I block people,I dont wanna see them on Deviantart anywhere else!

If Eclipse will fail, why not making the old Deviantarts green design black or grey,
but let the features,as they are!

You heard, that we need a better zoom in in Eclipso.

Did we have in Eclipse 160 folders, and if less, why!?

Is this with no ads really functionating without putting big money into it!?
That mean, people can use in emergency an adblocker from his computer.

Its important to disable comments in Eclipse of texts or arts.
Without that,Im not wanna test it!

Are all groups gone,or how you want transport all the groups to Eclipse!?

    We need urgently bigger avatars!!
The smallness of the old avatars let feel people invisible and not really a part of a community.

Is a daily deviation the same as a normal Deviation!?
I heard, you need to type extra an callendar only one time per day,
    to saw the art.

Can I still search art by person"I search Orochi(maru)"on Eclipse!?

Can I still have a grey filter to hide/report terrible art!?

I really hope, that Eclipse will be for free,if people dislike it yet.

I hope, that in a searchfield you can search Deviantartists by name WITH SEARCH SUGGESTIONS,
You type"F" and people with Fa Fe Fu Fo names will be shown.

A big calendar on a startpage reminding peoples birthdays.

Webcam,I hope we can use on Eclipse still coding little animations with the code:

Does our stash/pictures/texts and journals will have a thumblink as I see on the rightside of this journal!?

Can we still have icons on Eclipse,is this in development!?
Can we use the code for emoticon :icon bouncing:

Is Fella still the mascot of Deviantart Eclipse,or does you take a new ome/none!?
Will fella in the darkdesign light up in the night with neoncolour as skeleton or something like this!?

Maybe yellow font in black background!?

Can I use in the Deviantart eclipse journaltexts my favourite font without downloading it on my computer!?
I love the scripts kabayan,Amydor and Mervale script.

What happens in Eclipse with Deviantart Muro!?
Will a new Drawingprogram appear,or disappear Muro forever!?

Deviantart Eclipse should let create people logos as a special drawingprogram can(will not name it)

Can notes in Eclipse will save as draft,if the computer crash!?

Can you make in Eclipse, that comments can also save as draft,
    as notes do!?

Can I change comments as many times as I want!?
Or have I limits at 6 times.

I saw that someone cry, that describing fanarts with 15 tags is too less.
    Thats ridiculous.
You really doesnt need more than 15 words to describe your pictures,
because a lot of people even ignore tags and ignore even the picturedescription.

What about the pencils in the picturecorner, used for features?
I need urgently in Eclipse the change the mainfile option,
to change an unfinished picture against a now finished.

I hope, that we still have on Eclipse 250 favoritesfolder and not less.

What about our profilepicture on Eclipse.

I hope, the pictures with resolution(3500x3500Pixels)will be not shrunk/resized on Eclipse.

Like we can submit unlimited Deviations on the green Deviantart,
I hope the same is on Eclipse.

As on the normal Deviantart, you should be able to not being deactivated on Eclipso Deviantart,
as long as you dont deactivate yourself or be banned for this!

    Also groupavatars should be bigger.

No deviant art stacs anymore, even if I watch a group,
I dont wanna be überfallen with art, which doesnt interess me.

Will be the friendslist removed on Eclipse instead useing the lovemeter!?
What about friendslist and short contactlists.
The friendshiplists are splitted in levels:
    Best friends(always loyal,favourizing my work)
    Good friends(speak sometimes to me)
    Little friends(Say Hi to me)

Delete comments on my profile like"Thank you for the watch".
I dont need egoistic people interested in itself, not in me!

Advertise for the new Deviantart eclipse better!
    Make Deviantart public in television-reklama,
sell your own mascot plushies and actionfigures and dont let make fans anything of it self.
Maybe the grey, boring Fella need a pinky girlfriend and the staff tells every week
a comic lovestrip about fella and his girlfriend.

Or make a paw background with leopard-pattern,lightened in neongreen for fella
    and the blackdesign.

Change the backgrounddesign for each of the 4 seasons,
christmas, eastern and halloween and make contests for it!
    For summer in Beach.

Let make the Deviantart-eclipsa-logofont friendlier in big and small letters
and not only in unfriendly big letters to scream.

    What about colourfont in Text!?

I hope, that the pictures in my gallery will not fly loosely, that anything is stable!

2.I think its the featured Deviation, what show, what I especially like!
Will be the Featured Deviation still on Eclipse!?

    Im tired so goodbye!

What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?

    1. The ability to customize profiles for non-core members as well (yes I know non-core people can use basic html to customize but that still looks pretty bland; I want to be able to add a nice custom background for my profile, the same way core members put nice background on custom boxes)

    2. The ability to delete comments (things like "hidden by owner" doesn't look very good)

    3. The ability to upload animations in mp4 format. Currently, the only way to upload animations is in gif or flash format but flash is outdated and gif ruins the quality of an animation. I know it is possible to upload mp4 films but in order to do that, one must be accepted into the film community, which is easy for professionals but hard for a beginner, because if the beginner doesn't reach the quality level that's expected, he/she won't be able to submit mp4 files. This is a HUGE turn off for beginners. I think it's a bit discriminatory to say "you can't upload videos cause you're not good enough". I think everyone deserves to upload animations regardless of their skill level.

    4. Put back DDs somewhere easier to notice! In the past, getting a DD was a huge honor and people's art would get tons of attention/views if it got a daily deviation. However, today the reward gets almost no recognition around the site because people have to manually look them up to see them. Newcomers would have no idea where they are. What's the point of someone getting a DD if their work still isn't noticed?

A better reporting system and more stringent filtration of unwanted illustrations. A website called FA.net has a better mature filter system than DeviantART has. I did a quick research of their submission guidelines after the discussion I had with my friend. Here's what their rules said about the content depicts sexual subjects.

    4. User Created Content

Although Fur Affinity can display artistic renditions of adult content, the feature is disabled by default and may only be enabled via your account settings if you are legally allowed to view it in the United States (18 years of age). If we determine that you may not be legally allowed to access this content, we will restrict your access to mature and adult content until you can verify your age via government photo identification. Any attempt to bypass this measure may result in all current and future accounts registered by you to be permanently banned.

    In other words...
This site has adult content, but we prevent minors from viewing it by default. Minors caught enabling it or lying about their age will have access to adult content terminated. ANY attempt to bypass this may result in a permanent ban.

Charming! The submission procedure on that site is better and more modernized than on DeviantART.   On that site, you must verify that you are old enough to see picture depicts sexual subjects while here on DeviantART you can fake your age with no problem. If this site can have this type of restriction, then your site can have it too. I noticed this while I was reporting unwanted content that users have addressed to their profile at FA.net. You cannot view the content provided unless you are not a member of their service. Not to mention that they don't require from you to give your date of birth to view content while visiting their site anonymously, while at your service, you can circumvent this restriction without any problems. As of list of suggestions, go here.

What needs to be changed...Spread this Journal; feature it in your Journal entries, Forums, Organizations, everywhere you can. Deviantart needs to enforce etiquette policy, or this site will collapse as if it's not already started to collapse!
    1. Take stricter measures against artistic thugs on deviantART site.
I'm exasperated as lynx when I see how art thieves steal illustrations from famous illustrators. What bothers me most is why it is so difficult for the Administration to solve our problems? It shouldn't be difficult to hire an Administrator to take action against copyright infringement. When an art thug or plagiarist presents a stolen illustration, you don't need the genius to look at where the works are “side-by-side.” And compare them whether they stole flat-out or mimicked them. If it makes it easy to make it compulsory that people, who are reporting for unauthorized copying, apply an overlay picture or a side-by-side example. I was several time

Yeah, that's an obvious problem. It should be something similar to Reddit: deviantart.com/u/[username] for users, deviantart.com/g/[groupname] for groups. I think that'll fix the problem

The only improvement I feel the need is bring back pagination to a Deviant's gallery: if the Deviant is prolific, it's likely impossible to surf all their gallery without going crazy, and a way to split the endless thumbs would be good.

This is already possible, here's how to do it:
    - go to settings
    - click on "browsing"
    - and then, next to "paging" choose the option "click through pages" instead of "scroll through pages"
    - click "save"

    1) It would be pretty cool if you could continue to use thumbnails for gallery folders, but then when it comes to the sub-folders they can be links.
I say that mainly because yeah I had fun making some custom icons for my folders in my gallery but then going into said folder and it's the big clunky thumbnails of ordinary DevArt for the subfolders, I mean I don't want to go and make extra custom icons for the gallery subfolders too and to change it back to the links again would change the folders in the gallery too and I'd personally just find it a bit more... visually nice to be able to keep the subfolders as links while keeping the main gallery folders as thumbnails that can be customised.
Bit small/petty/mainly for 'aesthetics' but I can't really think of any other improvement I'd like to see to the profiles and such right now, I probably could if I thought about it for a while but nothing's particularly glaring at me right now and the folder thing is only because I recently worked on them.

Though that being said I do agree with other users that more customisation abilities for non-core/premium members would be super! T'is an art site after all and shelling out for the core/premo stuff to be able to express ourselves better is just kinda flat.

Anyway before I go off on a tangent or manage to make even less sense
    2) The part of my profile I'm proud of is the thumbs I made for my gallery folders tbh I haven't yet ventured too far into the big profile-changing things just yet largely because I know my design tastes can vary a bit so I've been cautious about commiting but still, something to do soon.

I'm not sure if there's much of a point to me saying this because what's done is done, but I just want to raise attention to it in case any other people are having the same issues: Pretty much since the exact day this change was implemented, my average pageviews per day has actually dropped significantly and gone all sporadic. I'd been growing slowly and steadily before the change, so this has got me both irritated and worried. Maybe it's just a stroke of bad luck, but I don't think I like it.

    username.deviantart.com to deviantart.com/username.

I don't like this change at all. A "/" can't be put in file names, and it doesn't look nice on pictures. And it's not really deviantart.com/username, it's actually www.deviantart.com/username. Not a pretty look at all.

However, as long as I can keep using my old url, and can keep sharing it, and can keep pasting it on my images, and can pretend the new url doesn't exist I'm happy anyway!

    1. What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?

More customization for non-core people. It's an art site, please let us have more art on our corner of the site Like a header or background image that we can make ourselves

I would like to be able to place the Activity widget in the Misc Zone under the Comments. I don't like how the extremely long Activity feed pushes away the comments so far that they're almost hidden.

Please don't remove the ability to customize the links above our profile page! I like having shortcuts to things I need

This is my list for Deviantart to be improved.
    1) Be strict with fetishes on Deviantart. I don't see want to see diapers, futanari, guro, inflation, extreme body growths, quicksand, vore, crushing, rape, abusive relationships, weight gaining, oversized body parts, people getting stuck, feet, bestiality, farting, scat, farting, extreme bondage, male pregnancy, bizarre transformation or fusions, wedgies, torturing, drowning, and incest. I may have some fetishes but I don't want to see this nasty content.
    2) Bring back the Premium membership.
    3) Ban all the pedophiles. I get sick and tired of people posting sexual artwork of underage characters like Sailor Moon and the Powerpuff Girls. But also because there are minors in the website and I don't want anybody being stalked on this website if they are 17 and younger. I don't care if the age of consent is 13 in Japan but Deviantart follows American laws with adults being used for sexual artwork.
    4) If people are posting journals or status updates I want to see people talking about art. I don't want to see them talking about their personal life or society. This is not Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, or Instagram.
    5) Have a better search engine. I'm typing in any word and I see artists posting artwork that have nothing related to the word or it's nasty fetishes.
    6) Original artwork needs to recognized more likely on this website because fan art seems to be more popular.
    7) I like to say that their needs to be used for the term original character. I want to see original characters and artwork that artists have used their own stories. But whenever I see original characters on the search engine they are mostly fan characters that are in fandoms like Dragon Ball because they are Mary Sue/Gary Stu/Self-insert original characters.
    8) I see photographers posting sexual content of naked people. I don't want to see this nasty stuff. I want too see artists drawing and painting their own sexual artwork.
    9) They need to get rid of art thieves. I'm mad that there are people posting artwork that doesn't belong to them but also tracing, bases, recolours, Photoshop editing, and posting screenshots from movies, television series, video games, comic books, and articles. This is really copyright infringement.
    10) Bring back the original logo and old design for Deviantart. I can't tell if it's a D or an A.
    11) Get rid of the trolls and cyberbullies. I hate seeing people making hurtful comments to artists on their artwork, journals, or profiles.
    12) Fix the Report Deviation. There are too many people not following the rules on Deviantart and it gives the website a bad reputation.

Oh wow it's nearly completed list XD

Maybe the staff should add a report user like in point no.12, it's hard to dealing with nasty users instead instant block them.

And for the point no.4, I'm quite disagree because journal or status posts shows any kind of artist's update. Instead block them, just go to watch's setting and uncheck the things you don't want to see. It's helpful to make the notification looks neat.

Look like you really miss the old DeviantArt..

Wow you've got quite a list there XD
I agree with everything you said here, though there are 2 things that are a bit subjective.

Regarding nr 4, yes that would be ideal, but you can't completely ban people from talking about what they want, especially if it's on their own journals/statuses and not in forums or chatrooms.

As for nr 6, that would also be ideal but, unfortunately, you can't control what people click and look at. Popularity depends on how many people click and view something. The reason why fanart is more popular is because many people click on it. If they didn't click, fanart wouldn't get many views. However, I do understand your point of view. This could discourage some people to make original art which is not a good thing.

Also, regarding nr 7, there are actually 2 different terms to describe both types of characters. Original characters are known as OCs and fan characters are known as FCs. The reason why people sometimes confuse them is because the term OC is sometimes misused.

I also agree to giving Non Core more customization. I would NEVER tell Non Core "Too Bad, Pay for Core. -Yadda Yadda Yadda-" as I agree with so many users here, that more customization would be awesome for Non Core. I like seeing what EVERYONE can do to their profiles and seeing what they create to attract friends/viewers/fans on top of showing their personality.
So in some comments, saying all of us Core members say that, is false. I agree with the overall community about more Non Core added features.

    Griffonmender [2018-07-04 22:54:49 +0000 UTC]

    Improvements?

Maybe bring back the ability to make proper reports?

The report button on everything isn't bad by any means, but in some cases(like a gallery filled with explicit porn violations), you don't want to view every last image in order to properly report the account.

The tickets helped provide a record of what happened, what was already reported, etc., which made it easier to avoid repeating information.

Making the FAQ pages easier to access (like pinned in that blank space between "become core"  and the profile button/dropdown menu)would also be ideal, as this would help make sure 1: people can actually find and read the rules and 2: obvious violators can't keep using "couldn't find them" as an excuse.

The same could also be said of the bug reports- especially given our long and storied history of them.

Speaking of making parts of the site more accessible, an easier way to get to the requests forum (where people suggest site improvements) would be great, since the last major overhaul of the site that changed the reporting system also completely broke any old links to the place.

Said forum was dominated by the same handful of people before the overhaul made it even harder to reach, and there was no way to report problem users who left spam and/or harassing comments in said forum. This should probably be corrected.

Doing something about the people making 100+ accounts just to cause trouble/steal art would be nice, too.

Finally, please correct the art theft policy back to NOT allowing users to trace other people's work without permission, no matter the circumstance.

No matter how many "creative touches" are added to such a thing, it is still a violation of the original artist's copyright, not to mention uncreative and lazy to boot.

Further, the rest of the policies on copyright and art theft not only run directly counter to that line, but would in fact, count such things as the stolen goods they are, making the tracing exception not only contradictory to the site policy as a whole, but negate it as well.

Furthermore, this exception runs directly counter to actual copyright law, which besides outweighing site rules, you also expect users to follow them as part of those same site rules.

Tracing other's work without permission should never have been allowed in the first place, and continuing to allow it is not only foolhardy, but detrimental to our community, the quality of the galleries, and the site's legal and moral standing as a whole.

Also, "edit deviation" has not been letting me change the main file- it just crashes instead,

This might just be a "me" problem, but looking into that might not be a bad idea.

(I'm sure the submission and edit process could use some improvements regardless.)

I honestly would like to see this in another update. I really miss being able to see the DDs easily as they introduced me to newer artists and I know this probably doesn't sound like much as it says I have only been here for a year, but I made a new account to change my user (Once again something that only core members can do)
I also think that non core accounts should be able to change their users as some people literally only get core for that reason. You can give us a limited amount of changes we can make and leave core with unlimited amounts to change their usernames.

janeartworks Idea that I'm agreeing with
What improvements to DeviantArt profiles would you like to see?

    1. The ability to customize profiles for non-core members as well (yes I know non-core people can use basic html to customize but that still looks pretty bland; I want to be able to add a nice custom background for my profile, the same way core members put nice background on custom boxes)

I know this is something not everyone agrees with but personally I think it should be done by DA. Usually, when non-core people say they want customization, core people respond with "tough luck, u should pay lol" or something along those lines. However, what people don't realize is that the majority of people on deviantart are kids and they are too young to have jobs, therefore, they don't have a salary/money so they can't buy core.
