Thanks!
Mecha IS hard...I've attempted it God-knows-how-many times over the last 10 years...and I can BARELY even touch on it! I avoided certain areas that I can't handle, since I focused more on the organic designs. If you're aiming for the "techie" designs (with the straight lines and whatnot like Gundam), THAT is killer tough!

I just figured out that the way to make mecha look high-tech, is to put bolts, and weapons and other fancy machine parts in logically sound places, and do a good job with shadowing. I will be on the look out for more good mech tutorials.

Goddamn that is incredibly cool I've never been able to do mecha, I don't have the logical mind to draw a mechanical being that could actually work if you know what I mean. Like with fantasy creatures nobody can say- "that's not right, it wouldn't work" because you can always come up with some crap about magical powers that make it work etc.
You're not a fraudulent artist like me
Anyway I absolutely love the shading in this, it look like it could jump off the page at you

Oh no, I like to hide behind my cloak of nifty eye candy-shading effects.
It'll be like:
Viewer: "Hey, that joint don't fit."
Me: "Joint? What joint? You mean the one right next to the area with the sparkley and awesomely wowey glossy shading effects?"
Viewer: "OoooOoooooohh"...

It's the first mecha tutorial I've seen, actually. Interesting! It seems to me like you missed one important thing: how do you come up with the design? I couldn't do all the edges and detalis and keep it looking realistic and nice. Especially with the fingers and things like that (that are supposed to move in a certain way).

Actually, I kinda implied basic human anatomical structure...sorry if I forgot to mention it.

Hmm maybe I could apply this to a MGS cyborg ninja drawing.

good work. aside from the quality of some of the images, no crits. (but you disclaimed that, so no biggie). good shading job, and i like the pose and character

Gotta second that, your shading is the shit. How long did that take you to make? the drawing that is not the tutorial (i know those are a pain in the arse to put together).

The drawing, I believe was about 3 hours...the tutorial probably around 2 hours...
