My entry for #metroid-club 's latest contest: the Luminoth and the Chozo.It's actually a redo of an old, old drawing I did that I liked the idea of but not the execution. So I finally said to myself "Hey! Dawne! You're a bloody graduate! Get off your ass and work on some stuff! You have time!" And then I said "Hey! Duske! You have some damn good ideas! Why didn't I think of that?!" And I did.

Nah, I only use it for sketches more or less. Alchemy is meant mainly for throwing out ideas. It has no undo option and no select.
For all my paintings I use Corel Painter 12. If you're on the lookout for free, good drawing software, though, (Which sadly Painter is not) I suggest MyPaint [link] or The Starter Edition for ArtRage 2 [link]

Heh, high praise indeed! Though now that you mention it, a tattoo design of this would be bloody awesome. I'm not entirely sure how bright colours work with tattoos, but if this were converted to grayscale it would actually probably look awesome spread across someone's back.
...Actually, I've been wanting a tattoo for ages now...

This is a critique in the form of a comment cause I'm not premium member...
Very well done. The body parts look like chozo and the wing like parts are more luminoth. Also, the metroid is well done too by the looks of the inside you can almost see samus' visor in the red part for some reason. But overall very well done!

Wow-- I really enjoy how you handled the medium this piece. The use of the overlaying of the colors and shaped makes it appear that this digital drawing was on a light table. It almost remind of of an ink splosh drawing in which you fold the paper and create a mere image.
I cannot keep my eyes off of this work, I hope you place in the contest this is incredible. <3

I was really inspired by the Chozo's use of holograms and the creature displays in Samus' visor. I wanted to get that abstract sort of hologram feel that I love so much. And it's weird because I almost never do anything with such bright, in your face colours. My stuff is almost always so bland. So liberating changing gears for a while.
I've also just gotten an idea for the same sort of image but of a Luminoth cause them moth people are awesome.

It's not vector. I honestly have no idea how to even make vectors! It's made in a free program called Alchemy: [link] It's got some pretty awesome settings, but it's geared more towards sketching so there's no undo option or anything like that. It just renders in black and white but I made each piece separately and coloured them with a quick overlay in photoshop.
