Description Finally the color version is done. This picture felt very different to the previous ones due to the special light and it's killed of every last one of my nerves. xD;;;

Now I'm looking forward to a few days rest from painting anything pink. Seriously, I've felt colorblinded while working on some parts and areas. x___X

Hope you like it and I'm happy to hear your opinions.

Gotta love the coloring in this scene. It really gives it a nice touch.

I'm happy you like it. It certainly was very different to work with compared to daylight colors. testing to the eyes but I'm happy with the result. :3

It's great. Evening scenes are always fun to watch but difficult to draw. At least for me. Whenever I tried to draw one I could never get the right colors and the lightning that would satisfy me enough.

Yeah, it's really ard on he eyes when you exclude a color. Having bright white surface doesn't help on that either.

I don't get along very well with photoshop. Way too many settings that I'm absolutely clueless about. I used to use Corel Painter a lot before as it has a more intuitive interface, but the later versions all suffer from lags and instability. A friend recommended Paint tool SAI and I'm loving it. It does lack some tools though so photoshop helps out with those.

I know the feeling, but you get used to it after a while, trust me. Video tutorials that you can find online are great help, for example. I've heard about SAI before, but never tried to use it.

It runs surpricingly smoothly and the interface fits me. t does come with settings just like photoshop, just not so overwhelming. As opposed to photoshop it's for drawing, so that limits the number of settings, but it allows you to export to photoshop with layers and all intact. :3

So many frogs!
I actually like this piece. It would have been a bit too cartoony for my taste if it wasn't for the light and colour-scheme for this one. It's a bit busy with all these individual things going on, but it's not too much, you still can look at the picture as a whole. I like that!
Oh, and the chameleon. I really like the chameleon.

Thank you for your delightful comment! Ever since I was a child I really loved to study the pictures in the Pettson and Findus-books from the swedish author Sven Nordqvist. They would always have a lot of small details and weird critters going about their everyday life around the main focus of the picture. I'm trying to make something similar with my pictures, so that there will always be something new to discover.
I'm happy you like the chameleon. It's one of my favorite details in the picture and I really loved how the sky showed through it so I left it transparent, making it a true master of disguise. ;3

You're welcome ^^ Ah, Pettson and Findus, wonderful books and artwork. I remeber one halloween where I was dressed as one of the weird critters under the floor in one of his drawings xD
The idea with the transparent chameleon is great, I really like it ^^

I don't think so, but my mom probably has the costume somewhere. I don't have a clue where, but if I ever stumble upon it, I'll try my best to remeber to send a photo Cx

I would love that! Hm, I need to get my paws on those books. I think it's a shame that you hardly ever come across the original illustrations anymore since Pettson and Findus first got animated. Now you find plenty of Pettson and Findus stuff, but it's all in the lesser style.

... I actually don't even know if mine's one or the other, I never knew there was more than one style ... I just, you know, concentrated on the story and the Bugglers (do you also call them bugglers in other languages, or is it just some danish translator or my mom who thought they needed a name?)

Yeah. Since they lay so many eggs at once, I figured that Rocky would have a lot of kids all of a sudden. I like the frog design. It's easy to doodle.

Good job, I see your drawing and coloring skills are pretty good as well! I heard evening colors are usually a pain in the ass, but you totally managed to find the right ones here. And I just read you didn't even use Photoshop? O.o

demiveemon In reply to westd123 [2012-07-22 13:00:53 +0000 UTC]

They are. XD I felt color blind more than once while coloring this picture. XD
Haha, no. I have a photoshop allergy. I always feels very weird and akward when I try to use it to draw or paint. For many years I've been using Painter Classic (now it's called Corel painter but it has a lot with stability issues). Luckily a friend i troduced me to Paint tool SAI and that works very well for me.
I do use photoshop for photoediting, resizing and things. :3

Interesting. So far I've only heard good things about Photoshop. But hey, it's up to every single artist. Plus it's always good to use more than just one tool.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

demiveemon In reply to westd123 [2012-07-22 13:26:52 +0000 UTC]

It's too technical xD too many settings and to many strange words that I can't make sence of. I do a lot by trial and error, but sometimes it's hard to see what exactly a setting does and I've had problems setting things up.
Both painter and Sai feel more intuitive, although I have no doubt whatsoever, that photoshop has far more funktions and options.

I did in the past, then I stopped for a while (for a few years actually). Still not sure why exactly. It just happened. And lately I got some of my interest back when my friend showed me some of her fresh art and introduced me to this website some time ago.

I recognize it well. I used to draw all the time while I was still visiting school. After joining my first anime community I did a lot of fanart, but wasn't really happy about it and at some point I stopped drawing all together.
Now I'm drawing again, but only from time to time. :3

Oh I enjoyed playing Warcraft too in the past. Especially multiplayer mode. I used to play some NFS too, because my younger brother totally loved it. I don't know Lord of the Rings Online, though. I've never been a fan of Lord of the Rings anyway.

Simillar to World of Warcraft it is a moRPG. It has nice and wellwritten quests and the graphics are very nice (and it has LOTS of horses). xD
I like the level of detail and in some ways it has made me interested to learn a bit more about the story behind, other than the movies that is. :3

Thanks! I've always liked Rocky's (papa frog) design, as it is veryy fast to draw, but this huge bunch of frogs turned out to be testing anyway. xD
I wanted to try out another lightsetting, than day or night. I'm happy with how it turned out, but there where many occations, where I felt colorblind while working on the coloration. %D
