Description lots of people have been learning to model and stuff lately, so I figured I'd make a tutorial on rigging. its hard to explain tho so please don't ask me to explain it better e-e. I'd have to show you. so go get skype and I shall attempt to do so if you wish. but if you give up to easy I wont help you >->. modeling takes persistence and patience as well as the will to force yourself to complete it.

The model used is an OC. its not done. it needs belts added, and obviously a head.

and I'm using "PMDEditor_0100" if you'd like I can reupload that versions since its about a half a year old. I hate the newer once since you can't remove the damn annoying circle thingy.

Now back to watching Kaitou Siant Tail \ o /

I have a model of alyx from Half Life 2, decompiled as an .smd and I got her into an .obj and then .x finally, and now I'm rigging her. However (as inconvenient as it is) unlike every other program out there source animates their models in T pose, not in the normal way where arms are bending down. Is there any modelling program I could use to do that. I have blender, 3dsmax, and milkshape but none of them give me the desired result.

oh. you rig it the same, but if you don't rotate the arms, its going to look terrible when you add motion data's. so I'd suggest rotating them down to fit the boneset your using.

Alright, thank you for your help.

And just wondering if you would happen to know this, but out of the blue would you happen to know if porting over from xnalara keeps the joints and bones intact?

I have no idea what xnalara is xD I don't rip. so no. I don't think it does though.

Hey, I have a question about rigging arms/legs. Is there an easy way to do it? I have problems rotating the model so I don't accidentally mess up the weight on the other arm/leg. How do you make sure not to accidentally hit other parts of the model when weighting?

separate the layers xD. and zoom in and be careful. there is no easy way out.

Maikeru212 In reply to Desu-Prince-Karen [2012-06-16 04:54:42 +0000 UTC]

Dang, I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to layer separation. They should really make it so that you can just drag your mouse over some points, right click, and "hide". It just seems so inefficient. -_-

xDD. I doubt its easy to program all these shortcuts. that's what layers are for in the first place, which is why when I make models, I make it in separate layers in Meta.

Weeeeell.. I just did something, and I dont know what but the straps are rigged and the other part not and I was like 'nop' and gave it to a friend to see if he can rig it beforeI tested the model D:

xD I see. I can't really make sense in that. If you need I can always lead you through the rigging process with livestream or something.

physics .. eheheh...nope. well. not soon. I don't want to see any large amount of physics or a whiel still after what I just finished xD; something like hair physics I could teach, but I'm probably not going to try much more. I'msounmotivated ;A;

ah, do you know how to position the stationary physics? like, without the joints? if so I can tell you exactly how to configure the joints, and why.

Kinda like that yes, I do understand now how rigging works and bones but physic and joints..? No idea!

I AM SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY ASCFJKHk. the joint settings you'd need for strings would be (on the bottom not top row, you rarely put anything in the top row) x:-20 x:0 y:-5 5:5 z:-10 z:10 . in that order.

How do you rig IK and hidden bones? I'm confused with them :S

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Desu-Prince-Karen In reply to Diamondd-Dreams [2012-04-19 17:49:57 +0000 UTC]

the same way. You don't rig hidden bones. they aren't even needed, they really just make it look better xD as for IK's rig like a normal bone. But I have no idea how to set them up to function. so I always use preexisting IK chains if I have to use IK's at all.

Do you know how can i extend the part "controlled" by a bone while rigged?

Rollinlol95 In reply to Desu-Prince-Karen [2012-04-08 16:35:37 +0000 UTC]

I mean- if a part is already rigged-attached to a bone, can i add another part to the rigged part? Example: Lower body is attached to bone (X), can i add Upper body to bone (x) while rigged?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Desu-Prince-Karen In reply to Rollinlol95 [2012-04-08 17:08:02 +0000 UTC]

eAe. I'm trying really hard to understand. so. rerigging whats already rigged? liek rigging the upper body back to the lower body...? or do you mean having one body part attaatched to 2 bones, which is not possible.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rollinlol95 In reply to Desu-Prince-Karen [2012-04-08 17:39:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, rigging Upper and lower while one of the two it's already rigged to the bone i want them to "attach"

Desu-Prince-Karen In reply to Rollinlol95 [2012-04-09 04:13:29 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, you lot me again ;3;. If you still mean rigging a bone already rigged to another bone. bones cannot be unrigged. their default rigged to the center bone. so default rig it (as in all red, percentages leave it partially rigged to the previous bones) to whatever and start again.

Desu-Prince-Karen In reply to WECKYhot10 [2012-03-28 15:29:47 +0000 UTC]

yeah, rig it back to the bone it was rigged to before. if its the elbow, rig it back to the shoulder, ect. if you messed up on the entire thing rig it back to the upper or lower body and start over.
