Description
Here's two screen grabs of Abomination from the new HULK movie that I just had to alter. The trailer is here: [link]I'm cool with this version of the movie so far. I'm very interested in seeing it, and want to like it very much. But I'm troubled by the choice to deviate from Abomination's likeness so much. I've read the director's justification for it, I respect it, I just disagree with it and feel they could have invented a brand new villain for Hulk instead of exploiting the name of an established character for fan interest, then not delivering. It's my opinion, but I think if you call it Abomination, it should look like him. So I added some ears and some minor touch ups around the face to make it look a touch more like his namesake. What do you think?

Tim Roth did such an amazing job as Emil Blonsky. And I must admit that he does kind of look better with the ears...seeing the Abomination withought ears made poor Tim look bald...O_o

I like it. Though, I'm afraid I have to agree with the director. I mean, Abomination in the comics is cool, but that's in the comics, this is a film meant to be grounded in realism, and it would just seem too odd for his ears to mutate into such a specific shape. Still, I do like the way you've done it, it looks very authentic.
Oh, and I always thought that his fin like spine was supposed to remind you of the fin like ears

awesome! i felt the same way with all the marvel movies; Xmen, spiderman, etc...
it doesnt make sense to me why they change things. what was this directors reason to alter this character anyway?

This and some pants on Abomination makes him a lot better for the movie.
I mean, seriously, he's naked, and he has nothing in his crotch! He should at least have pants you know!

Much better.
Yes....I dislike that as well, when they try to alter a character's look. An attempt to modernize him? Tsk. Shameful.

Personally I think for this Abomination, the elf ears from Ultimate Destruction might have been best.

I'm rather satisfied, that abomination didn't had the ears in the movie. Why? for two simple reasons. One: while I'm looking at this, I get a feeling, he doesn't look seriously. Two: it would be strange, if his ears were transforming. But it's fine here. Keep up the work.

Is the top one sparkling? The close up on his face looks like theres a glitter effect or something. Might just be my computer . . .

Never mind. I was watching a video on youtube and I could see flashes of it through your picture. Which is odd, because it was in another tab . . . oh well. It isn't sparkling anymore. I guess Abomination isn't outrageous: truly, truly, truly outrageous.

I was wondering why he didn't have ears...
I guess it's because they wanted him to look more human without the ears...
Their fight scene in the city was kinda short... wanted more punching, crashing, and smashing

I knew something was missing! The webbed ears is what makes abomination and not just an ugly hulk.

I think they left out the ears because he would look like a fish monster, but they didn't want to alter the incredible design. The movie is pretty cool, actually.

Yeah. Actually some early reviews have been popping up and all are quite positive. I can't imagine hating this, but then again, Hollywood completely destroyed my other favorite giant monster Godzilla with his first movie in 1998. But if this movie does well, perhaps they'll consider rebooting the Godzilla franchise as well and DO IT RIGHT !

i dont think the ears and the touch ups make him the make him look any more or less like the abomination if anything they need to make him more green.....which is from the gamma radiation...just like hulk......you also have to remember that it's a comic book
most movie adaptations do and sometimes have to completely warp a character or else they would just look silly take green goblin for instance looked completely diff take away the glider and he was loved after the movie.....
the way hes portrayed also makes one hell of a diff.....emil bronsky (spl?) mis a traitorous bastard
as long as they get the character down i wouldn't care is he wore a too too and slippers
...anyway nice piece i almost thought it was out of the movie

thats not the point im trying to make even though thats ridiculous ...not sure where your going with that anyway...im saying its about the character portrayal not what he looks like
they did him justice in this movie....how unrealistic would it be if he looked like a sewer reptilian monster....how why people would ask....they way they did him in the movie just made sense......have you seen the movie yet?

Hey, can you imagine this scene being played out with Metal Man taking on the Abomination instead of the Hulk?
You can't tell me that wouldn't rock...
Well, you could — but you'd be wrong!

That'd be INCREDIBLE! Actually, IronMan's nemesis in the movie is Iron Monger, who resembles MetalMan in a lot of ways. So, I actually have a PERFECT idea just what MetalMan would be like as a live action movie!

TonyDennison In reply to dopepope [2008-05-06 16:54:54 +0000 UTC]
EXACTLY. If you really think about it- Iron Man and the Hulk films are just vehicles in which we can see monsters, machines and "machine-men" fight.
But in any case, if you were to work up a Hollywood-style treatment — the execs could extrapolate from the Iron Man and Hulk films pretty much how your idea might play out on the big screen.
Umm, do you have a treatment work up? Just curious...
