Description Here's two screen grabs of Abomination from the new HULK movie that I just had to alter. The trailer is here: [link]
I'm cool with this version of the movie so far. I'm very interested in seeing it, and want to like it very much. But I'm troubled by the choice to deviate from Abomination's likeness so much. I've read the director's justification for it, I respect it, I just disagree with it and feel they could have invented a brand new villain for Hulk instead of exploiting the name of an established character for fan interest, then not delivering. It's my opinion, but I think if you call it Abomination, it should look like him. So I added some ears and some minor touch ups around the face to make it look a touch more like his namesake. What do you think?

wow. that really works (for me). I liked the design in the trailer, but it did sorta look like something was missing the head doesn't really look substantive enough for the large body...

Maybe they (the movies effects people) felt that the ears made Abomination look a bit too aquatic- but this looks good. Maybe they could've made the ears look like deformed human ears, thus alluding to the look you have here, which is more respectful of the original (and more aesthetically pleasing).

Good eye Pope!

exactly, they didn't have to be aquatic, just deformed and sharp, like jagged bones piercing thru some excess skin, similar to how they did the protruding spinal column on him, only smaller and thinner. But whatever.
At least IronMan was faithful to it's visual origins. Great flick.

Looking forward to seeing Iron Man (heard nothing but good things). I think you need to develop Metal Man for film/animation/comics- the timing is sooo right for this sort of thing. Of course you know I'm basing my speculation on this art [link] and the general tone of your creative sensibilities, which I am utterly blown away by.

Dope, mate, just dope! I just have a small problem taking in this whole new Hulk movie... Didn't Universal do a Hulk movie just a cople of years ago? So what's up with this one? What's the difference? It's not an sequel right? Cuz this time Edward Norton is the giant green man. Sorry for my ignorance.

I believe Marvel was very unhappy with Ang Lee's version of the movie in 2003, and with all the negative word of mouth surrounding it at the time, so they went ahead and 'rebooted' the franchise with a different version of the same movie. Not quite a remake, not quite a sequel, just another go... a do-over if you will.

ya just gotta put the bumps on his head, those are as much a part of his "look" as the ears, but this is a simple GREAT improvement, somebody send this to the director and tell him to have the effects house get back in their and fix him up right!!!!!

dopepope In reply to dusty-abell [2008-05-02 13:23:14 +0000 UTC]

Agreed, but I Was simply trying not to alter too much of their design to prove that the simple addition of the ears would be so much better. But yes, I've heard a few times to include the lumps on his head.

You did a really good manip with this. And your version of the Abomination is so much better than the current film version.

Your touch-ups look much more like the Abomination that I know. I loved the comics where Hulk fought Swamp Thing... they should have used him. Oh, but then there was that awful TV series of Swamp Thing which is what everyone will remember instead of the comic. Oh well.

Then again, they could have had Hulk fight S.H.I.E.L.D and had Hasselhoff reprise his role as Nick Fury...

I have to agree with you. I'll still give the film a shot but I do hate unnecessary changes. Nothing beats turning Galactus into a giant space cloud thingy!

You did a great job on the manip in my opinion! :]

Who gives a crap about reptilian or not... it's original right? I think they should stick out of respect. pfft!
Nice job mate

haha, that's awesome! It looks waaay better. What was their justification for their version?

๐Ÿ‘: 1 โฉ: 1

dopepope In reply to JHarren [2008-05-01 18:19:57 +0000 UTC]

The director mentioned he couldn't justify the reptilian like ears because he's not a cross between a reptile and a human, just an extremely mutated human. I say, it doesn't have to be done in a reptilian way, as I have clearly shown it's just a small change.

Mgauge In reply to dopepope [2008-09-07 21:58:06 +0000 UTC]

Giant ear aren't exactly reptilian anyway. Why not let him have them?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 0

JHarren In reply to dopepope [2008-05-01 19:24:59 +0000 UTC]

I suppose that makes sense...but he can suspend disbelief for a giant green man with super-strength but not for the Abomination's ears? Maybe its just me but I can't stand their version of the Abomination.

Yeah... when I first saw the trailer, it made me go "Wut? I thought Abomination is the villain? Who's this guy?" I had to go check IMDb to make sure.

Good photo-manip.
