Description comments are way better than faves! <3
I went to visit my cousins this weekend, and the oldest one, Katelin (who's my younger sister's age) showed us her new tablet and art program she'd gotten from her grandpa. She's an artist too, but after getting the tablet (some sort of Wacom, one of the really expensive ones) she's completely switched over to digital. Well, almost completely. It's her medium of choice, at least.
She'd improved tenfold since I'd last seen her work (shoot, some of the stuff she showed me was pretty fantastic) and after looking through the sketchbook I'd brought with me, she wanted to draw one of my characters. I helped her find reference pictures for Snap, since there are a lot in there, and as she sketched up a headshot on the computer I watched how she drew noses. She's really good at noses and eyes.
And I was just like 'shoot, that's a way better method than what I do' and decided to draw front-view noses like her from then on.
(I told her I'd learned something from her, and she was really flattered; from then on, whenever someone walked in and complimented the Loki picture I was working on, she'd be all like 'buT THE NOSE IS MINE' or something lol)
She's a big Loki fan too (finally, someone I know!), so we sat and talked about Loki and Thor 2 and whatnot for a while. (She also introduced me to a couple dozen of her OCs, my favorite of which is Blueberry, an owl-pirate.)
Earlier that day we'd watched Thor (they owned it on DVD, much to my delight) so of course I was in one of those stupid Loki moods and when she let me try out the program (Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, btw) I had to draw him. (Had to.) She doesn't include a lot of shading detail in her art, though, so she was pretty impressed as she watched me work.

He took fluffing forever omg
But I reallyreally love how he came out, even if it was a lot more detailed than what I'd expected. (Part of me doesn't like it, because he's looking straight ahead at the viewer and that kind of thing always makes me uncomfortable--but oh well, whatever.) I just kept adding more and more lol
It's also about fluffing time I give him a different expression, too. This one suits him better, anyway; I'm always forgetting that he's actually sorta evil, OTL
Originally it was going to be just black and white except for his eyes (shoot, I do love green eyes), but I finished everything else and was itching to color his lips for some reason (seriously, I love adding blush to pictures), so then this happened and he just looks ridiculously pale. (I also colored the gold thing on his chestplate, which is actually too high up in this picture, because I really can't leave that thing uncolored. It's fluffing shiny.)
So by working on this I actually improved a bit; I found a better way to draw front-view noses, obviously, and I also figured out a thing with eyelashes and lips, though you can't really tell. I probably should have shaded the shoulder piece, but I really don't have its design committed to memory so I just left it unfinished. I kinda like the sketchiness, though.
I also forgot to mention that I really love the pink around the edges of his eyes, and the shading of his irises, and how I drew his lashes, and--yeah. You probably get it. I like his eyes. (But not the highlights; they came out too fuzzy, ugh. I did miss the variety of brushes found in Photoshop.)

The drawing program was really awesome and was much better at making lineart than PSE, but as I'd expected, like most Autodesk products it was kinda expensive. To me, at least. (like, sixty dollars )
I totally would have bought it if it was, like, half that much, though.
I think I'll still search around for other programs, however, since I don't think PS is very suited to the sort of digital art I make.

(Oh! and a word for my dearest watchers: I apologize for being so inactive recently, as school work has been keeping me extremely busy and I've had zero time to draw. Love you all, and I hope to get on soon!)

Asking for critique because even though it's not perfect, it's probably the best digital piece I've done in a very long time. ;u;

Drawn in Autodesk Sketchbook Pro.
Edited in Photoshop Elements 8.
Loki belongs to Marvel.
Art is mine.

I was trying to write a critique but I'd just ended up complimenting you the entire time so

It's really beautiful, you've become such a great illustrator!Β

All of the details and facial features are just amazing and wonderfully done. Aaah

Thank you so much, wow. (That means a lot, because up until last year or something I was positive that you were a better artist than me and really looked up to you. o:)

Wowwwww, this is incredible. ;u; Β I wish I could say more, but... yeah... It's amazing. <3 Β Again, I love your cross-hatch shading! Or whatever it's called. xD

I diiiid! Other than a sketch of Hunter, though, this is the only thing I drew. |D We also watched a bunch of movies: Les Miserables and Thor and the new Star Trek, and apparently Prometheus, though I was upstairs at the time and had no clue. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was also on at one point, but I didn't pay attention lol

Thanks dude ;u; And yep, it's called cross-hatching. :3 Or cross-hatch shading. Both are correct. It's probably one of my most valuable drawing skills, as I use it all the time without even thinking. xD

Thank you!

And don't worry, you'll improve. Trust me, I was really bad at drawing once. If you keep on drawing, I guarantee you'll get better.

I am still loving and adoring the Loki fandom! And after what Hiddles did at Hall H.... XD

Yesss

Yep, the fandom is great. ;u; Like, I don't like any of the ships (I'm seriously like pro-asexual-Loki or something), but other than that it's awesome.

You have no idea how excited I am for Thor 2.

(Or, on second thought, you probably do. Every Loki fan probably feels the way we do OTL)

I love Loki as a character through Hiddles portrayal and the fandom is awesome. (I ship Loki sometimes, but mostly it's if I think the fanart looks cute or it's a good story). XD I AM FRIGGEN EXCITED FOR NOVEMBER!!!! THEY ARE GONNA ADD EVEN MORE LOKI!!!! I'm so darn excited! XD

Oh, absolutely! Both. I agree with both. Oh my gosh.

Ooooh, I heard about that! Smart move on their behalf, as long as it doesn't come out kind of corny somehow--you know what I mean? Like adding stuff that's irrelevant and takes away from the movie. Because I think I'd rather have a good movie and less Loki then lots of Loki but kind of a stupid plot... y'know? But that may depend. I dunno. Good luck to them, anyway.

Fair enough and I understand. I hope it isn't just adding Loki for the sake of adding Loki, but hopefully his scenes will work for the movie. I know Tom will shine as Loki, so I'm not worried there. Β

Oh, of course; it's never even occured to me that there'd be issues there. He's always spectacular.

I feel as though my critiquing skills have faded.Β  (This coming from someone who used to be an education major, and had an Ed Tech certificate for a few years.)

Is it alright if I say that you've done a great job with this?Β  I've seen a few photos of the character you're drawing, and I can see that your sketches of him are becoming more like him.Β  The definition with the chin and hair are done well, and the eye coloring makes it "pop".Β  That and you have this great ability I've noticed, with clothes.

So, with that said, nice work.

Cheers.Β

DragonTygress In reply to Steve-C2 [2013-08-28 00:10:22 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!

You're the second person to say that I'm getting better at drawing him (the first was my mom), and though I aim more to capture the essence of the character than the likeness of the actor (though I love him too) it means the world to me that others are noticing improvement.

I'm really glad that the chin came out well, because I always have trouble shading chins; also, the hair took absolutely forever to finish (I used the same brush for everything except the pink parts) but I'm very pleased with how it came out.

By 'great ability with clothes', do you mean making them look realistic or something texture-wise? If you don't mean that, then I haven't a clue what you're talking about. |D

Thanks again! <3
