I was scrolling Pinterest the other day and stumbled upon a....rather familiar piece and uhhh....somebody had this to say. *sigh* There's one in every fandom I guess....okay I'm lying there's at least like over 100 of these fuckers in every fandom.And no I did NOT submit this artwork on Pinterest, it just showed up like most fanart does on there.

I was talking to a couple of Russian Charlastor shippers on Twitter - they seem to get regularly harassed by Chaggie shippers (both from their homeland, and from abroad) online, and even across multiple platforms.
And, since they're Russian, the ol' "homophobe card" had become a recurring element as well.
It seems like nobody cares that Viv gave her blessings to ALL the ships.

Yeah. Although I get the impression that the ones harassing them might just be trolls.
Seriously, some of them have been receiving death threats, and have been reached through instagram as well.
I try to be a supportive as I can, but the best they can do is just block and report at this point, and keep going, despite the harassment - which many of them, particularly the Russians, are doing.
But we have had people leave the fandom (at least, on Twitter) because of it.

You draw what you want to draw, don't let people like them stop you from drawing what you love to do, there will always be others who create unnecessary drama from being offended by drawings. I'm late to the party, but this is one of the main reasons why I don't do ships anymore (unless it's my own characters of course). Isn't the point of ships to have fun? π€ Would the fictional characters really care about this stuff? Okay, I won't lie that there are some fictional pairings that I don't like either, but I just ignore them now instead of talking about them like I used to. Just acknowledge their existence, keep your head down, and your mouth shut. Besides, if nobody is going to rain on my parade, why should I rain on theirs? These people are stressing out over a darn cartoon. Besides, crack pairings and alternate universes are a thing, so I don't understand why it's such a big deal. People floor me.

I'm of the unpopular opinion of being against Shipping. In my eyes, if a show/game/etc. doesn't present two characters romantically involved or even hinting at it, it just doesn't work because of the lack of chemistry or (especially in the majority of fan ships I see) very forced Chemistry.
With that said though, I'm not going to go out of my way to tell people they can't do it, because why should I or anyone for that matter care unless they like the ship?

Those aliens have definite gender conforming shapes and voices though. So I can see how they get shipped because they're familiar to us.
But imagine if they were 100% neutral with voices identical to a computer and with a body plan that appears neither masculine or feminine. That's the real challenge. It doesn't play to our rules of courtship and interest.
