Description A slice of history in the making - the original Mandelbulb (power 8), rendered using custom raytracing software to a giant 7500x7500 pixel resolution.

Unlike other 3D fractals, intricate variety and detail is found in all axes, and of course it goes on forever, no matter how far you zoom in.

Oddly, the 2D MandleBROT zoom-ins induce NO fear in me, tho I can get bored after 50 billion X magnification.

I love finding things in these! You are absolutely right about history in the making! If the original Mandelbrot set transfixed so many people, just imagine the possibilities with something like this!

Exquisite amount of detail. I wonder if it is capable to be exported for other 3D apps. Keep it up!

Someone should make a video game where this thing is a planet you're on. That game would be impossible, no matter what the object was.

A few are interested in doing just that. Gotta be careful though - the surface could be very fragile, because of the intricacy. It may crumble upon touching, like aerogel or something.

Wow!

To be honest, looking at the full size image on this page haven't really impressed me much (though it looked pretty cool) but then I got curious about your comment and I visited Skytopia and I don't get how is something like that even possible!

Just to be sure - do I understand it right that this single fractal is literally UNLIMITED source of abstract beauty???

Amazing job...

dspwhite In reply to StrixCZ [2009-11-19 07:45:17 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much yes. I don't think the level of variety will be up the same standard as the 2D Mandelbrot however.

Arthur C. Clarke would have been proud. He considered the Mandelbrot set to be one of the seven wonders of the world, he would have flipped over these. I've been keeping up to date on Skytopia and I have to say they are awesome things of great beauty to behold. I want to make one.

I'd written a story many years ago, shortly after fractals were becoming easier to make on early home computers, which featured such a thing. It wasn't merely rendered though, it was three dimensional, and ... well, caused some issues

This is so awesome to see what it'd actually look like.
