wonderful work, it really gives a new life to the little beastie. I've never seen a spider--especially one so small, quite so close and detailed.

There is an easy trick to macke stand still - you have to simulate cold morning - in cold conditions spiders and insects get slow and sleepy. Just put it to fridge for a while

ahh...yes i know this trick...my friends and i used to take the fat bubble bees and put them in the frezzer for a couple seconds so we could tie strings around them and keep them as pets and walk them on their leashes

5 stars all the way across the board.
I am sure you'd enjoy this bizzare video clip of a jumping spider and its mating rituals.
Strange, but none of my friends have ever seen a jumping spider because of their size, but this picture makes them look huge. They thought they only lived in the amazon. lol

Porywam go sobie ^^

you took this with a sigma 70-300???? What camera are you using?
not to mention... how close was your lens to the spider?
(i've not had a macro shot work on my bigger sigma lenses yet.... i'm so glad to see its possible but i'd love to know if you've got a trick to it).

Well it wasn't just a Sigma as I wrote in comment to this photo I was using Sigma combined with reversed 50mm lens. It's quite simple trick - to need to have some bright 50mm lens ( I'm using f:2 manual Rikenon lens - it can be any other, but it's important that it should be manual lens - you can controll aperture in manual lens much easier than in AF lens - I recommend some M42 lens, better would be f:1.7 or 1.4 ) and special ring that would allow you to combine sigma with 50mm lens - you can order such ring from internet, it's very cheap ( max 20$ ). This ring will have two threads - one thread has diameter of Sigmas filter size ( in case of 70-300 it's 58mm ) and second thread - diameter of 50mm's filter size ( in my case - 52mm ). - and you mount 50mm to the front of sigma - that's all - next you have to experinment, for sure you'll need a lot of light.
Instead of using 50mm lens you can reverse also some wider - like 35mm or even 24mm - it'll be even better - the wider lens, the bigger magnification it'll give when reversed.
You can also use ONLY reversed lens - you'll need then m42 adapter and reversing ring - also two threds - 42mm ( adapter thread ) and on the other side filter size of lens you want to reverse - in this case it is better to reverse some bright 35 or 24mm lens ( also m42 lens would be the best ).
This is how to achieve very cheap but powrful macro - however you have to aware that image quality is rather bad in many cases, you need to work on photo quite a lot also in PS, although sometimes you'll achieve REALLY good results - chek my gallery, I've got some more nice pics taken with Sigma+50mm combo.
Good luck!

I have a sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 (auto A), sigma 100-300mm f/4.5 (manual A), sigma 28-90mm f/3.5 (manual A) & a pentax 50mm f/1.4 (manual A).
The 28-90mm does a great macro shot when on my 35mm slr....
I havent gotten my k10d to get a good one, mostly due to the digital mm ratio i think. Basically I dont like the idea of not being able to get in close to what I am shooting - a minimum focus distance of 1m-2m just isnt good enough in my opinion. At least with my 50mm lens i can get slightly closer....

Well... you don't have typicall macro lens that's the problem... But sigma 100-300 can be very interesting for a wildlife photography!

You'd think that with the numbers, but the 18-125mm & the 28-90mm both advertise themselves as "macro" lenses.
Living in perth theres not much 'wildlife' needing the long focal.... but the 100-300mm is good for outdoor concerts & the zoo at least. Most day shots i use the 18-125mm for its range without needing to change lens... though my f/1.4 stays on most of the time considering i do a lot of low light work with live bands.
i just miss my macro & nowadays i dont really have the money to spend on film like i used to.
